I was listening to Deeper by Madonna this afternoon and was impressed by how she used a line from Vogue towards the end. Which got me thinking about artists who have sampled themselves.

The only other ones I can think of is 10cc and I'm Mandy Fly Me which starts with a line from a song on Sheet Music (I think) and of course Steven Tyler doing Walk This Way with Run DMC.

Can anyone think of any others?

That wasn't a sample. It was rerecorded.

Prince and Robert Plant have sampled themselves. I'm sure there are loads more.

I'm sure a lot of HipHop artists have sampled themselves, Beastie Boys for instance sampled New Style in Intergalactic

Putting your own tunes to vinyl to scratch with was also done by a few people including Portishead.

When I saw Rakim a few years ago he did bit of a Paid In Full Coldcut style, after Coldcut sampled Eric B & Rakim for one of the most major tunes in history.

Damn you, I now have Rakim's rap from Paid In Full going around on loop inside my head! Could be worse I suppose......

As for the original question - sampling one's own breaks and chopping them up / resampling them is a staple of certain D&B producers. Nebula, Remarc and Alaska / Paradox (Dev Pandya) are all masters.

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

I think Muse have. Either that or all their songs just sound exactly the same by accident.

The Beatles sampled (or sang) She Loves You at the end of All You Need Is Love.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

A cup or a cupped hand will suffice. Never have.
