Clubs and agents often mess about in making terms of payment difficult if the deal isn't what they really want or they might have an alternative. Very few transfers involve paying the money up front.

Really?

Maybe, or maybe just because a Turkish club see prem money they want it now because we're late in the day and if we don't pay up now then feck it, they'll sell him another time when they can replace him.

The January window is always more expensive.

We needed a striker in July. We will need one even more in January, so we will end up paying more.

Neither do you on that one. But what I do know is having 3 months to sign ONE striker which was an emergency and signing NONE is inexcusable.

We won't if we're cut adrift come January 1st. The only ones who will have the money are the Yanks and judging by the close of the the summer transfer window it looks like they have already said "No Mas".

I agree. Then within a week or so said we had £40 million to spend in January! Can anyone explain why we could not have just paid up within 6 months.

This is correct answer, In this country payments are normally structured over contract length. However his club wanted a quicker payment

Did we find that out too late? Cenk Tosun said in the press his club said we were too late just for them to find a replacement. Not unusual for us is it?

It doesn't matter really because the real error was not keeping Campbell who'd be banging em in for fun, keeping Benteke out of the team when fit and us not missing Benteke when injured.

With Campbell we'd be well clear and where Dyche's Burnley are.

The Besiktas President claims they were happy in the end with the fee and the payment plan. Problem was we came in with that offer on our deadline and a week before theirs. They did not believe it gave them enough time to source the replacement the wanted/needed so they scrapped the deal. Palace were simply too late to come up with what Besiktas wanted.
Standard transfers in England (and most of northern Europe) are half the fee up front with the other half paid in installments/linked to player or club achievements etc over a time frame that the selling club is in agreement with.
Of course there are always exceptions but its rare a buying club will part with the entire transfer fee all up front for a player. Unless you have the money of a Man City or Man United. Its even rare for them to pay 100% up front.
