Well his strengths are not his defensive qualities. It is well known that he is better coming forward than defending.

All I saw until he was actually beyond their right midfielder was him passing it back to left centre mid, and him under pressure to keeper.

His confidence appears to be shot but I have never held him in high regard in terms of his playing ability.
I was aghast that we actually paid £10 Million rising to £14 Million and I think I mentioned this on HOL.

Regardless of whether you believe that he was worth 10million or 14million, we were in dire need of a left back last season and he was someone that actually wanted to come here in January despite our poor league position. There wasn't a huge amount of time or options once Olsson had chosen to move to Swansea. Without him or Schlupp we would have been in all sorts of bother at left back, with only Kelly able to fill-in. If that continued we would have gone down.

He isn't having a good season. Nor are a huge number of players. His mistake for the goal in the week was no worse than Luka's at Liverpool or Dann's miss at Burnley.

Strange isn't it that the only thing I ever read about PVA is that he is better going forward than defending. In that case, why isn't he playing left midfield with Schlupp behind him, or more to the point, why does he portray himself as a defender at all?

He's not hat good going girward either, looking at the 2 excellent chances he missed against Chelsea and Newcastle.

I'd agree everyone should calm down a little over what was just a mistake from a player struggling for form. Our team needs us right now and singling players out isn't gonna help them get there form back.

Singing for JS when WH is in goal is frankly ghastly. Our support does us proud until moments like this.

There are many hundreds of left-backs plying their trade here in the UK and across Europe. I'm sure with a tiny bit of effort we could have found twenty to choose from and at a third of the price whom have better ability than our PVA.

We didn't though which speaks volumes and exposes where our weakness is off the field. Sh1te at scouting.

Didn't the then manager pick PVA, Schlupp, Luka and Sakho. Personally don't understand why everyone is getting their nickers in a twist slamming our scouting when it was Sam's choice and he wanted PVA the board backed him. And really he hasn't been much worse than anyone else in the team.

But now it's our shocking scouting and the boards fault.

Is it also there fault for finding Luka who cost so little...

Fickle fans only picking out what they want to discuss to suit there agenda.

Tell me Luka is s***. Or Andros who we basically swap gayel for. Lured Cabaye to the club and paid up for Sakho and Benteke.

Yeah we're so so bad at recruitment....

Granted we're a keeper and striker short which is a big issue but we've added more quality than dross these last few years.

Another bargain buy. Will only have cost us £18mill and counting by the end of the season.

Well done Parish for having good scouts in place.

To be fair, PVA did a decent job for Allardyce at Sunderland and it was not unreasonable to expect him to do similar for us. Pants he is though.

Last january we needed a left back with prem experience to rebalance the sidd and save iur season. With schlupp they did both.

That said I accept he was rubbish on Tuesday. However, he will stay to the summer. Keeper and striker are clear priorities.

I read the Sunderland fans forum after he signed. No big loss was the general agreement as his faults were obvious and money offered was too good. This from fans whose team were at the bottom. The clues were there if someone else apart from Sam had dug a bit before giving him a contract. Or at least not offering very stupid money for him when he is such an incomplete player.

£18 mill as I said by the end of the season. Sheesh.

They were relegated though! Maybe it was a loss after all.
