Haven't seen it mentioned yet.

The line between Balham and East Croydon will be closed on Saturday.

Southern rail are running a replacement service between the stations.

Direct trains from Clapham Junction to East Croydon are still running.

A simple solution would to be either put on coaches direct from East Croydon, Clapham Junction/Balham to Selhurst park rather than sending everyone round the houses or just stop the direct trains at Selhurst /Norwood Junction on the fast platform. Sadly logic never seems to play a part. planning engineering work on the rail network.

You will of course find that the buses make detours to visit stations located in back streets such as at Streatham Common thereby taking ten times as long to get there.

You should see what happens when they do that up here, though. The detours are about 20 miles long per station. And you don't really want to go out of your way to visit Blackridge or Armadale.

Dear Original Poster,

Please have a look at the network rail Journey planner. It appears that the Victoria to Caterham service (13:27 at Balham; 13:41 at Norwood junction; 13;44 at East Croydon) might be helpful. I expect that for the return journey - when there are loks of supporters to be moved, specific fast line trains which usually give supporters a service at Selhurst, will also stop at Thornton Heath. I leave you to do your checks.

John

Is that still the gateway to the South?

Why would you go to East Croydon if you lived in Balham? Surely, it's infinitely easier to go to Thorton Heath or Norwood Junction from there?

Even if you did need to get to East Croydon, Balham is only two stops from Clapham Junction.

They don't give a dam about us that use the trains daily so why do you think they would care about people trying to get to work? Personally I'd rather they sorted the trains out in the week, which affects thousands more than to 'put coaches on to Selhurt Park'.

Daily Southern rant done and I'm WFH so don't even need to use them

Incredibly expensive place to live. Still, it's got about 2 streets that make it feel expensive 'villagey' with very posh shops and parts of it have quiet roads.

You're obviously too young

It was a spoof travel documentary by Peter Sellars in 1958 talking about the delights of Bal Ham (his pronounciation)

If you lived in Balham you'd probably never go to Croydon. That may change when it's raised to the ground and a new shopping complex covers the whole lot from west Croydon station to George Street, and all land the whitgift centre and central covers, east to west.

Now come on Kermit, have a little sympathy. It could add at least half hour to their journey. That's a pint before the match.
