Just googled the story and yep Trump says US will recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Many of the things he says are inflammatory and this is another one of those occasions.

This is a column from the Washington Post syndicated columnist Richard Cohen (it ran today in today's NY Daily News). I believe it accurately reflects how a great many Jews in the US, including me, are feeling about the policies of the Netanyahu Government. However, there is a particularly loud group, to which Alan Dershowitz seems to be a leading spokesman, that claims criticism of Israel is anti-semitism. If that is the case, hundreds of thousands of Israeli citizens are anti-semitic because they disapprove of their government's policies. For me, we have to separate the faith from the political policies of a government. It is becoming increasingly hard to explain to my friends that I believe a Jewish homeland is essential and must continue to exist but a Jewish State which uses the religion to justify whatever it does in the name of national security is bound to create massive problems. That is why Theodor Herzl, the founder of "modern" Zionism, said the Jewish Homeland should have no established religion.

Surely such a move would greatly increase the threat to innocent civilians pretty much everywhere, whilst creating new opportunities for the sales of security/ military equipment and for the increased erosion of civil liberties?
