Of course we need a more reasonable solution. I'd suggest that randomly steralising say 80% of the worlds population might resolve the situation within a generation - without actually killing anyone.

Of course now were in 'Utopia' terrotory

There's something exciting yet terrifying about that thought.

Well on a reasonable, objective scale, its resetting the clock. Something reasonable virulent like flu/cold virus, airborne and with a medium incubation period, could end up infecting 50-75% of the worlds population and probably killing a further 50-75% of those infected.

Random is fair but not practical.
It would be better to sterilise people in places where there are too many already or where there are regular famines. That way we can ease suffering in the long term.

Mmmmm.....I don't want any high IQ people steralised though.....or people with physical or creative gifts that lots of people want.....for example, Joe Root's kids are likely to have a higher than average chance of having high eye to hand coordination and be good cricketers.......Sternilise a John Lennon and you reduce the chances of....blah blah blah

The future for the coming generations is genetics.

The poor have to be protected and maybe we can increase IQ and eradicate most disease through genetics.

Man....the future is going to be exciting....and dangerous.

Random would be the only fair, method that was free from prejudice. Anything else runs risks in terms of genetic diversity, necessary for evolutionary development.

Genetic diversity would not be served by random sterilisation. It would be better to sterilise more people from high population areas. That would create a better genetic balance.
Lowering the population in areas with smaller populations could only add to a lack of diversity in those areas.

I don't really think so......High IQ for example isn't dependent upon much else over than the brain so has plenty of diversity.

You wouldn't be looking to limit the reproduction of talented people in general so it wouldn't only be IQ anyway.

As for fairness......well, unless it was world wide you would literally be just lagging behind and logging time until another state made slaves of you once it surged ahead.

But I understand the dangers within the argument. When we talk about limiting reproduction.....well...there's little fairness in it.

you should read 'the unabomber manifesto...industrial society and its future''

he was nuts, but he did predict a lot of the stuff happening right now. Predicted it back in 1995 and even beforehand.

scary, prophetic, sobering.

Working without borders for one...I can see a big rise in remote working...my brother owns a Structural engineering firm and regularly offers work to Spanish engineers...none of whom set foot in the UK.

In answer to the original OP i's also suggest that manufacturing will increase in the UK due to brexit, and that there will be (and already is) a huge demand for database engineers and SQL / Oracle developers as databases are ruling the world...be it the automated, marketing, political or manufacturing one...if you dont have data...you wont survive full stop!

Nature is going to deal with the big issue. Population. Corona is a teaser of what is to come. Wars do very little to affect global population. In the next few years there will be increasing strength viruses with no antidotes. The world should run most comfortably with say 2 billion less. it would appear we are starting to test nature.
