Back in the 1990's I invested in a load of US internet start up companies, unfortunately they weren't Apple or Amazon.

I recall Alan Sugar complaining that many of these internet start ups didn't confirm to the usual business models, had never made a profit and never would. Of course he was right and most including mine went to the wall.

As regards Crypto currencies for the lucky and the clever they will make a profit and get out before they collapse. I was never lucky and certainly not clever so I will stay clear.

My guess is that at some point global regulation and control will take over leading to stability. One possible consequence. For decades politicians and bankers have been exploring the idea of a global currency. It is possible that one of these crypto currencies will morph into that.

Now if only I could work out which one.

A man who's financial shenanigans (avoiding a 400million dollar tax bill among them) would be high-lighted on the blockchain so of course he's going to do everything in his power to deride it.

Nothing to see here.

Just a quick heads-up.......

Cryptos are tanking atm (par for the course) so a very good time to buy.

What have you got in your portfolio? Litecoin has taken a beating this past few weeks. Will be interesting to see what Charlie LEE has to say Over the next few weeks

I've got 3 of the top 5 but have avoided Ripple but equally missed Tronex just before it took off 2 weeks back

They all have but it's normal for this time of the year so don't stress .
Bitcoin, Litecoin, Populous, Omisego, Adex and Veritaseum (soon).
Ripple's the bankers coin so it's very easily manipulated (to suit their accounts....surprise surprise) so i ignore it.
I've seen Tronex (along with a few others) do well lately and hopefully they'll be good for many but i'll keep to my main 'picks' for the time being.

The problem with waiting is that ultimately you end up missing out.
2015 cryptos ended far higher than they started.
2016 cryptos ended far higher than they started.
2017 cryptos ended far higher than they started.
2018 cryptos .......will be the same (bookmark).

Every day, more and more global companies* are looking at Blockchain/Crypto technology as being the way forward, that's why i've been trying to make people here aware, and equally profit from it, for the past 2yrs or so. (It fell on deaf ears, sadly)

This isn't going away. This is real.

Banks and governments are taking this seriously. I agree with you TUX. It's a punt like all investments but a potentially very exciting one

For clarity I am very new to Crypto so do not speak from a position of expertise. Given what has happened to the Greek economy 5 years back and Carillion this week, a lot of investments live and die on trust

You may be right, you may be wrong. Only time will tell.

A sound long term strategy is to spread your investments over several different categories to balance your risk. So as well as having cryptos consider some more traditional shares or a tracker fund too

Just my advice, which I know you didn't ask for :0). Over time it's very risky to have all your eggs in one basket, but it can pay off handsomely in the short term if you time it right, but that timing is purely luck.

1. I took out my private pension in 1985, i was 17. I cancelled it 8yrs later due to constantly being 'advised' (cough cough) every year to increase my payments, above and beyond what was realistic.
From that day i chose to look after my own funds. Time has taught me that these people knew very little regarding the financial system. Nothing seems to have changed

2. I don't have all my eggs in one basket and equally ''timing'' is more than luck bud. To say that is myopic tbh. Having an open mind and doing some research pays massive dividends.

Good luck.
