I am pleased we have invested in the future. Dougie's record for new talent is very good, so let's all be positive and hope we have at least a couple of "gems".
This IMO doesn't detract from our lack of immediate quality, but I guess SP & co know what they are doing?????

My biggest concern with ANY striker we get is the service we provide them....its FCUKING WOEFUL!

So unless we improve the quality of ball in the final third; we could have Lionel Messi up front...he's gonna be feeding off of scraps!

I'm hoping that the kid on loan from Benfica can address this issue though.

In most of the clips his movement off the ball to get that yard is what we have missed , Benteke is somewhat static sometimes and to easy to mark , so signing a lively forward is what we needed ......just got to feed him now with quality service !!

Hmmm, all of those apart from the solo goal on 3 mins he was completely unchallenged. Hopefully when he is it doesn't faze him. He has the physical presence to hopefully do that. They'll see in training with a bit of Sakho or Delaney nudging and wrestling you get in prem matches because you rarely get the space in that clip unless you're winning with 5 mins left.

Maybe

But if we had kept Murray he would have scored half a dozen this season. He knew where to be and could predict the incoming balls. Benteke just doesn't. Is it the deliveries all the time, or some time is it the striker not being where he needs to be.

Our current predicament is too much reliance on crosses from the wide players to Benteke's head. Hopefully with Sorloth, he can capitalise on through balls in the center as well as crosses from the wings.

It's a mixture of poor service, poor movement and reading of delivery.

This guy is more mobile and athletic on the move than Benteke ever will be again so hopefully that not so perfect ball he can feed off. Benteke used to, when he was keen and hungry and on probably £30k per week at villa, with competition for his place. Sadly those days will never be the same with him I feel.

IMO more of the Benteke not being where he needs to be/reading the play. Let's see how Sorloth does, looks promising.

Only because he'd be on penalty duty!

You look at the crosses we put in; whether from open play or dead ball situations, we're shyte!

The number of times we hit the first man is ridiculous. As for your point Rudi; about movement, if a striker knows where the ball will be played he'll get there...but again you look at how many times Beneteke is in the box or attacking the area hoping a ball will come in only for it to be over the bar, goes out for a throw in on the otherside or hits the first man.

The goal we got vs Wet Spam the other night was the first decent delivery into him from the wing since Leicester!

I agree that he looks a prospect; but lets not set him up to fail when we have issues elsewhere. The more we supply ANY forward the more we will score.

Benteke also waits in the centre of goal when the assister is only 8-10 yards from him. There is either a lack of understanding or practice from certain angles and distances or situations that it never works, one or the other at different times gets it wrong, or we're relying on a couple of these to get the understanding going.

Actually at Liverpool most of those perfect floor passes to Benteke, and there were lots of them, from the right wing with him side on to goal ended up going miles over so I think he's a bit limited in this area.

Hopefully, if they both play, thus guy can get on thd end of Benteke's flick ons. Nobody else seems capable of doing it.

Yes but he is seen to be attacking the space which is something we're not seeing at present, don't you think?
