Reading it back, I see what you’re saying. But honestly, nothing was intended with that. It was just in response to others on the thread saying something about Chinese spectators and selfies. My comment is really just saying that 40 years ago it was not very common to witness asians in attendance at football matches, Today it is very commonplace and I don’t think anything of it. I probably should have been a little more careful with my wording....point taken.

By the tone of the rest of your post I didn’t think that element was meant as it was written. Remember that in North America Asian means South East Asian with a tourist implication. In the UK we think of it as South Asians, many of whom were born and live locally. They are still a bit rare at Palace matches which is a shame.

I've been following Palace in the US since the 1980s, and it was the same for me back in the day, pre-internet. Buying a London newspaper at the one store in my area that carried them, 4-5 days later, to get the match results.

Calling the Palace shop on a land line phone to buy programs and a shirt.

Now I'm lucky enough to travel to London 1-2 times a year, and I can get tickets to matches. When you're a tourist, it takes pretty much a full day commitment to travel to Selhurst from central London and back again. But it's so much fun. My wife came with me, and she loves it as much as I do.

I learned the songs, I sing along, support the team, and make noise. I don't want a shirt from Kane or Salah, F*** them, I'd burn it.

But I get that the original post was complaining about tourists who come only to watch the other team. That sucks, and honestly, the best thing to do is to make them feel unwelcome. It's like the pubs around Selhurst that are "home fans only". Opposing fans should get the message that they shouldn't sit in home supporter stands.

If you support Man U, sit in the away fans stand. It's probably clueless tourists who figure it's cheaper and easier to see Man U in South London than it is to travel to Manchester.

As long as tickets are cheaper and easier to get at Selhurst than they are at Old Trafford, I'm afraid we'll be stuck with ManU tourists.

Yes, and you could easily come a cropper in the wrong end in a South American football match and in MANY, MANY, many parts of Europe. I go to footie in Argentina and you have to have your wits about you. Look what happened to this guy... it was an internal dispute, but they set him up and a rumour quickly spread that he was from a rival team, and more and more started hitting him, until he was forced to jump into the void. He was diagnosed brain dead but then died from his injuries two days later in hospital.

Personally I've seen a lot of people getting the s*** kicked out of them in the wrong end, sometimes very, very badly and once nearly thrown off a tier. Officially though, away supporters have been banned here cause there are too many bullets, except for cup matches and friendlies, which are the most dangerous matches to go to.

NB. I'm not condoning any of this behaviour at all, I'm just pointing out that these Manure getting away with being in the AW is totally lightweight... it's laughable. And people writing in to whinge, oh my lordy! Go and do something about it if it gets on your tits. Take them on and cause a scene... haha.
