For the younger members Vince was one of the first black players at Palace. He took racist stick each week not from the odd fan but whole stadiums. Yet to his credit he and the other trailblazers just got on with it.

Great player fantastic skill unfortunately the final ball often left him down. He should have been better and should have scored more goals. Never the less he was my hero.

He also played at a time when skillful, fast players could be kicked by defenders; tackles coming through the players heels were common.
It's a sign of how players' lives have changed, that Vince lived in a very modest flat around the corner from my similarly modest flat in South Croydon. He was friendly and polite whenever I bumped into him.I'm sure he is a favourite of many from the team of the late 70's that promised so much.

Vince will probably make more in book sales than we did in his footballing days and Good Luck to him.

Just read his book while away, thoroughly enjoyable read though sad at times. A great insight into the game before the money and sanitisation spoiled it and an eye-opener to some of the managers of the day!

Turned up as a Father’s Day gift yesterday, perfect . However reading the foreword by Kenny Samson was interesting , I always thought he left us due to his debts and bookies in Livingstone Road, however according to Ken it was all Venables doing , Kenny didn’t want to leave !
