Completely agree - let's just get rid of this cesspit of a thread from HOL.

Why? Do you find it uncomfortable?

It's an opinion, based upon the likelihood that a dislike for a pejorative word is based upon self recognition.

Provide your reasons for not liking these words but finding 'cringe' acceptable.

By which logic, I can safely assume that you self recognise as being cringey - interesting.

My dislike for these words in a grown-up political debate stems from the fact that they would most commonly be heard in a school playground, and this is about the level of intellect and maturity they represent

You know very little of my politics, or opinions, yet I challenged your use of two phrases, and your response was 'beta male alert' - sounds very much like schoolboy stuff to me.

It does, if you claim - as he implied, that the site was somehow less argumentative before. I don't remember that.

It was and had a more balanced set of far more mature [regular] posters although, I forget if it was Peterliator or Funty's diatribe against Jewish bankers starting WW2 was fun, but that was the good days when the right wing were proud to be right wing and said what they meant without hiding behind mealy mouthed euphemisms.

But at the same time, I remember, when Peter had a death in the close family and all rallied behind his thread. Nowadays some posters seem to think they own the forum not HOL, and have an over blown sense of their self-importance.

Stop talking in generalities and provide evidence for your accusations. I suggest that you don't even know what the far right believe in.....I'm not a adherent of the far right because I'm not a racial separatist.

Like I said in the original post. What does Robinson believe in that deserves the taboo status provided to him? The reality is that there is a disconnect between what the man says and how its treated.

That's just complete nonsense. It's just a flawed opinion poll conducted on a tiny sample of millions of people across Europe and only 1000 people of a population in excess of 65 million in the UK. It wouldn't stand up to any research scrutiny and it is somewhat surprising that any academic would attach their name to it.

You're referring to people who you disagree with as beta-males. On a football forum. Behind a keyboard, on a thread about a man who, if he took to the streets to make his views clear, may on a sunny day get a crowd of 200.

I think that two of the most prominent yet least well remembered aspects in the rise of intellectual fascism in the 20th century are the bio-politics regarding first blacks, then Jews, and the psychoanalysis that became a radical and exclusionary discourse throughout much of Europe, and influenced many prominent members of Fascist organisations. What I see aimed at towards both Muslims and many on the left is a worryingly similar train of thought.

Science is becoming a religion once again, one which has its certain holy scriptures that are misinterpreted and misinterpreted as they are passed around believers. Like most religions, the inherent transience and mutability of scientific thought is replaced with a hard-iron devotion to A few facts and doctrines. The beauty of science, like the beauty apparent in ALL religious texts, is being overlooked, while the interpretation which preaches exclusion and intolerance becomes gospel.

I say all this, by the way, as a science teacher.

95% of the forum content on HOL could be deemed pointless, though. Why have you not been on other threads demanding their removal because of their "pointlessness"? I'm genuinely curious to know why you've singled this one in particular for attention.

Poor logic there I'm afraid. I professed no dislike of the word 'cringe'. I simply highlighted the inconsistency of, and possible reason for you disliking two pejorative words but not another.

Mmmm....I worked in a secondary school playground for years and I never heard these words. All three actually have quite adult themes behind them.

By the way a 'phrase' is a group of words, only 'beta male' could count but really it's a term.

In regards of them not being 'serious' or 'grown-up political debate'. Well, yes....that's fair comment. But this isn't Radio 4 Dan (if I can call you Dan). This is the politics section of a football forum.

Serious debates happen but it requires all the participants to want one. Obviously a thread about Tommy Robinson is going to be a contentious thread with polarised opinion.

I accept the potential criticism that it was Gusset-like of me to start this thread. However that's about the extent of it.

As usual you are wrong.

Robinson just recently gave a speech at 'speaker's corner' that had thousands in attendance.

Sorry I deleted the rest of your post but it just read like a load of old misplaced nonsense. Robinson isn't a fascist and frankly....if you are a science teacher, your views on it amaze me.

What degree do you hold in the sciences?

I guess it is because all this thread seems to achieve is argument, hot air, polarised views and personal attacks but as others have said I suppose I can just ignore it.

The numbers show a broad consistency amongst many different countries. Given that these are polls carried out in multiple countries asking the same question I reject your criticism of it.

If there were an issue with the sample size then you'd expect significant difference in results over multiple polls.

Mmmm....In this case I'll go with the academic rather than you.

Rubbish - you can only prove significance with an adequate sample. I'll stick with my judgement thanks.
