Pfff, I'd like to keep McArthur just like any other Palace fan, but I'd love me some James Tavernier in a position that desperately needs improving (right back). He's great, had a great seasons in Rangers. Left English football at 24 after not getting the playing time he deserved. Now he's 27, not old, a good age for a right back.

I for one wouldn't want to see McArthur leave.

Tavernier has also played at centre-half,left-back and on the right side of midfield.
Has the pace and energy to get forward and he loves making those forward runs.
He has a free kick in his locker.
He was at Newcastle when Pardew was there.

What would be the point.

Jimmy Mac gets forward scores priceless goals in the PL put a price on that hasw 2 years left on his contract.

By all means make an offer fpr Tavernier if they think he can step up to the PL pace.

First job is surely to replace DD .

Why not say, as many others do, yes you can leave but we have to have a replacement.

Delaney hardly played for us this season just gone.
Maybe they see Jach as his replacement.

Sakho and Tomkins have done well,Kelly at centre-half hasn't been too bad and we just don't know if Dann will be the same player after his serious injury.

Given how many injuries we picked up at CB, including JT and MS who are our first choice pairing, it wouldn’t surprise me to have a more versatile player such as Tavernier come in. It is rare to have five top quality (read capable) CBs to utilise or cover, so a replacement for DD would probably have to offer more value for money. Someone who can play a number of positions is a likely option especially given cashflow can’t be all that abundant.

So I manage a Workshop which provides a safe learning environment for blokes struggling with PTSD and other mental health issues. Being a Palace fan isn't listed yet.

Tavernier played 10 matches in his entire career as center back. And over 200 as right back. Ease up on the center back thing, it's not his position and not the position he excelled in.
He has been great as right back so he should only come in as right back, His height is not that of a center back either: 1,75 metres

If (and it's a big if) there is some interest on our side it suggests Wards contract will not be renewed. AWB and Tavernier as our two right back options. At just 3.5 mill suggests he is being bought as cover, so maybe we are looking at AWB to be our main right back.

Mascherano is a tad shorter and he played quite a few games for Barcelona at centre-half !

Of course Tavernier is a right-back by trade rather than a central defender but he has been deployed centrally.

Possibly

Or we think his injury is severe enough to keep him our for much of next season.

Or We want to put pressure on him to sign

Or he has turned down our best contract offer
