I agree with others that in the city these drivers are everything I hate in society, I am sure it would be different in the countryside where a 4x4 has a purpose.

I truly believe many who own one actually can't afford one but see the need to have a ridiculous finance deal just to try and be someone they are not. The current low interest rates etc means people can keep borrowing, but they need to be careful and take a step back and ask if they really need what they are buying or is it all for show?

I am happy with the car I have and much prefer to spend my money on less in your face luxuries that me and my family can enjoy.

I don't need a 4x4 as I don't live in the middle of nowhere, I don't live in a town with roads wide enough for one, I don't own a horse box or caravan that needs towing and I don't have a plastic wife!

Now that really is generalising!

Some people are like Slinkies … not really good for anything, but you can’t help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs.

Why are you bothered how other people spend their money? ‘You are happy with the car that you have and prefer to spend your money on less in your face luxuries’, that’s upto you, doubt if many other people care. Maybe spend a bit more time sorting yourself out and stop worrying about other people.
‘Hate’ is a very strong word , if I hate something I’d say something about it. Maybe next time you see one of these people that you hate in their range rovers you should pull them to one side and tell them, hopefully it will be me.

Now that really is the daftest post that I have read for quite a long time on so many levels. The first paragraph is an attempt to try and justify your irrational prejudices without having any factual basis to do so and the second paragraph is telling the world that anyone that sees life differently to yourself is wrong.

As already mentioned I don't own a 4X4 but I'm also not shallow enough to judge people on the type of car they drive

Thanks for your comments..

I am entitled to my opinion and based on my past experiences I am happy with that.

I am sure there are some lovely 4x4 drivers out there but my experiences are what they are.

Yes hate maybe is a bit strong but I don't spend hours thinking about what words to use, to me it is a figure of speech.

I don't hate many things in life just the obvious that I need not mention on this post.

I am though.

All the Range Rover (and Q7, X5 and Porsche Cayenne) drivers I've seen around my patch in Essex perfectly illustrate the TOWIE / plastic / w*nker stereotypes as per Fledgling et al's comments.

Mind you, I drive a 220d as the kids still need picking up from their mothers on weekends and there are back roads a-plenty between here and there. Feel free to judge away although my average MPG of around 50 will make me feel impervious to it ;-)

As you are so much into stereotypes I assume as you drive a BMW that you are an "Aggressive yuppie pr1ck who thinks they're an awesome driver. "I'm in a BMW therefore this lane is MINE!"

[Link]

I'm sure that you know the difference between a BMW and a hedgehog. Yes that's right - a hedgehog has it's pr1cks on the outside

Glad you found that loaded bullet so easy to fire, Midlands

Sadly, I'm far too old to have "y" at the front of any acronmym I may deserve.

I spent a couple of years driving for a living way back when so am actually a very defensive driver on the motorways and dual carriageways, hence the MPG figures. I do get frustrated by people pootling along at 35-40 on an empty, fast country road that I know like the back of my hand though, I'll admit. The eldest has taken to saying "punch it, Chewie" to me when we get to one of the decent overtaking spots on those well-travelled roads.

Dad work done on two fronts there :-)

I saw the Allotment Chair last week at the plots. I walked over to her (she's late 50's and a local councillor)and attempted to broach the subject.
I kid you not.
She looks at me and says "I'm not in the mood for talking, alright ?"
So I left her to it.

As for the neighbour with the 4X4, we passed in the car at the weekend, me and the Mrs waved, the husband waved back, and she sat in the passenger seat with her arms folded.

Unfortunately, the decision about whether to continue the friendship is no longer hers to make.
No way back.
