It’s a mad suggestion. But it raises an interesting point. How do we keep moving forward, and keep our Premier League status going in circumstances when newly promoted sides are spending £30m+ on players without signing a few of these ridiculous suggestions.

I mean its not like we haven’t spent some serious money, but we are caught between a rock and a hard place really. If we lose Zaha we will struggle to move forward, and if we don’t move forward then we will struggle to keep Zaha. It is only a matter of time before signing players like this is moving forward.

You think that spending £30m+ is the key for success, nothing is further from the truth for clubs outside the top 6. Our best purchases over the last few years Luca, PVA, Cabaye, McArthur, Tomkins,Dann cost nowhere near £30m, but are moulded into a team. Benteke our highest transfer fee has struggled this year, but due to his transfer fee we had to play him.
If you want to see £30m+ signings, your following the wrong club.

I read poster's comment slightly differently to you but I agree with you. We are not generally in the market for £30 million players but we need to spend in excess of that figure in total to progress. Our injuries last year showed we lacked strength in depth so I would expect us to be looking for 4 or 5 players and a total spend of about £40 million if we spend 30 on one player that restricts what else we can buy

I do like this forum. I like how people don’t read posts properly, create “straw men” and then impose their views in a completely tangential way to what was originally said.

My view is not that we need to spend £30m on each player, I didn’t say that at all. But it is alarming that a newly promoted club is splashing that kind of cash on a single player.

I guess that the point about healthy debate is that it is only possible if someone can be bothered to listen to other people’s views, unfortunately.

So you didn’t say signing £30m+ players is the moving forward then!

I'm sure he'd like to join up with all his French pals. Um has Cabaye re-signed yet? Tekkers speaks French doesn't he?

I am sure that CPFC seek to sign players to fill gaps and provide continuity. If just the former an older player will do, if both a young established player (Luca) fits the bill. Provided we produce our own talent (with no gaps there is no need to have many transfers in. Think about AWB and Trent-Alexander - our lad could have gone to the World Cup, seeking to make T-A a Palace player is unlikely. COYP

Bet you said the same when we signed lombardo, cabaye and so on.

Highly unlikely agreed. Ridiculous? Nah

Yes it is ridiculous because Man Ure will want around £60m for him & if he does leave them alot bigger clubs will want to sign him!

Yes it was a big surprise that we managed to sign Lombardo but not so much Cabaye due to his relationship with Pards.

Plus Lombardo was 31 when he signed not 22, like Martial
Good chance he will leave United though
