From the grind your gears thread, I thought I'd spark the debate on here

I think he's a force for good, calls out politicians lies, social injustices and helps to destroy myths peddled by right wing press

Brilliant journalist

Exemplary broadcaster who cuts through the Politicians' double standards and lies. He exposes all too easily the selective memory syndrome of too many MPs and indeed members of the public via their calls in - he'll also soundly expose the donkey-like poor reasoning / sheer ignorance of far too many people who are entrusted to make an informed decision at the ballot box. He'll criticise Labour as well as Conservatives with the latter getting the brunt of attention given that they are in Government. He is the radio voice defender of the everyday hard-pressed citizen who is trying to make a living and bring up a family etc. Compulsive listening during the school holidays....

Not good if you are mainstream.
People believe these 'facts'

Certain facts have long been known about Grenfell e.g. cheaper, flammable tiling used etc. He has always gone to the known facts as well as researched background / history to subject of phone-in discussion.

It's more a case of what people CHOOSE to hear....

So the lazy stereotyping is yours.

If you could correctly comprehend my attitude, you would understand that I don't hold contempt for the middle class.....in fact I view them as vital for the maintaining of a meritocratic society (as long as the people in those positions are there by merit and not cronyism).

What I do hold contempt for are....as I said, 'champagne socialists'. Middle class people who advocate for socialist policies while enjoying the benefits of a lifestyle that employs all the realities of advantage.

If you believe in equality. Then live a life that is equal to the average. Otherwise you are a hypocrite who believes in selective equality. If you are lucky enough to earn more than the average, then give the excess away to causes you believe in.

So I'm hypocrite free on this one.

Yup that's right it was cheaper and flammable but at the time it was passed for the standard required.
A lack of training may be the reason so many died.
(Apart from the fire and perfect storm on the night of course)
It is only alleged though.
Let's wait for the result of the inquiry.

He is very good at what he does, and it is clear that LBC rather like employing him as a foil to Nick Ferrari, (along with helping them keep up their spread of social groups to boast to advertisers about) but he has pinned himself in a corner given his own love of spouting off Progressive BS.

And the BBC did drop him from Newsnight because of it.

Also I believe he started off as a show business journalist rather than a serious political commentator and I am convinced that he plays up to a cynically woven image of himself. His 'brand' works for him, that much is clear.

And like many on the left now I suspect that he is all for his own brand of freedom of speech whilst keen to clamp down on that of others but I concede I am bringing my own shoulder chips to the table here.

Never understood how Champagne could be considered derogatory. Surely a "Prosecco Socialist" is worse that truly is the chattering classes.

So you believe in inequality?

I still don't see the hypocrisy, if he was trying to portray himself as something he isn't, I would be inclined to agree, but he openly admits to his background.

I don't have a problem with his socialist principles, unlike you I don't buy into class divide.

I believe in meritocracy. Equality is the enemy of meritocracy.

If you fail to see the hypocrisy I can't really help you.

'Class divide'? I'm not the socialist!

It's frustrating communicating with you. You don't answer a question put to you and instead reply with a question and then waffle about not seeing a point I made very clearly.

Okay but meritocracy isn't to do with wealth and priveledge although it could be argued it goes hand in hand but you were referring to what he earns and how much wealth he has, which was kind of pigeon holing. You don't accept that anyone can have decent socialist principles whatever their background or lifestyle, instead leaning towards stereotypes
