When are we as a nation going to stop using this stupid term ? Why do we think we own the sport ?
Do you know how snobbish it sounds when i hear people say "its coming home" ?
This motto is what got us killed in our recent world cup bid.

Football is a gift to the world, its home is anywhere a ball is kicked.

I cringe when i hear brits use this term, and its happening alot on TV lately.

It's about as daft as having a World Series with only one country competing

It’s the most used saying at the moment. Have had so many messages with famous tv clips that have been doctored, or someone opening a fortune cookie that says ‘it’s coming home’
We invented football, it’s the main line from a great football English song. I like it.

We invented the game just like we created the empire and we won the war. Modern day PC UK seems to want us Englishmen to forget all of our past or worse still give it up to the world. That pal is where you clearly stand. Not me.
Bring back the terraces, risk, a bit of fight and toughness

We'll stop using it on 15th July.
Unless we decide to wait until the victory parade.

The British public school old boys system started organised teams sport as a recreation activity. Improved workers rights as a result of the trade union movement brought leisure activities to the masses. Pretty much every team sport played worldwide derived from Football, Rugby, or Cricket. It's something we
should be proud of.

Traitor.

It's called that because it was originally sponsored by a newspaper called "The World".

Football's coming home was meant to refer to the fact we were hosting the tournament in 1996, so I don't actually follow the logic of why we use this phrase during the current world cup?

By we I presume you mean English. To say England won the war is a mighty big stretch. I'd suggest Russia and America contributed just a little bit along with numerous other nations.

The Empire was the British Empire, not English.

Ah, but perhaps it's a myth that it's a myth, though.

Kick backs could not be agreed; presumably Qatar is as much the home of football as England is.
