By that logic the scientists in the antarctic could assemble a team and demand a place. The game doesn't need growing, almost everyone plays it, almost everyone loves it. Where's it got to grow? Just get better at playing it if you want to argue for more representatives. I continue to maintain that the only way for the game to grow is to move away from the Eurocentric model the game has been following for far too long. the only way for Asian, African CONCACAF and Oceania to get better is to play more often and against top competition. Who in their right minds thought Germany would lose to both Mexico and South Korea? Who thought japan could possibly get to the round of 16? the only way it happened is that they had the opportunities and they took them. In this World Cup, Europe had 14 (with Russia hosting) and should have had 11. The three slots should have gone to Oceania (to make this a true World Cup), Africa and Asia. Ivory Coast just missed out. Imagine what Wilf could do on this stage. I'm not lobbying for CONCACAF as the USA certainly didn't deserve to qualify. CONMEBOL should include Suriname, Guyana and French Guiana to give them 13 members. When it goes to 48 in 2026, I would give no more than three slots to Europe and make sure Oceania has at least one clear slot with a chance for a second through an intercontinental playoff. The three extra Europe slots I'm allocating would also be decided by intercontinental playoff. There has to be some jeopardy of a non-performing team in qualification losing to another confederation rather than everything kept in house. The three host nations should play a round robin to determine who gets the hosts slot and the other two go into CONCACAF qualifiers.

It is the team sport with the most national sides of any sport. There's more teams than there are sovereign nations. Japan always had a good chance of getting through, as they only had one European team in their group and they're the best team in their region. If you gave 3 slots to Oceania you'd have NZ, and two tiny pacific nations. They struggle to get their acts together for Rugby, which they love more and are actually pretty good at. As it is going to 48 teams, I'd just give everyone 50% more places than they get now. So Oceania would get it's one spot and NZ would always be it, which is kind of pointless but never mind.

YOu keep saying the game doesn't need to grow You are not recognizing that due to the corruption of FIFA, the confederations and certain federations/associations, the game has a bad image problem that hasn't been effectively addressed. The net four years will put a very uncomfortable spotlight on Qatar, which already has a bad international image and will get decidedly worse. Therefore, the game must grow its base in order to overcome the torrents of negative publicity that is bound to come. The Saudis are doing everything they came to undermine Qatar. Sooner or later Sepp Blatter, who can't seem to shut up, will face the music. Where is a great deal of the corruption coming from? Europe. Would I put my hand in the fire for the honesty of Infantino? Hel no. Do I think the FA are honost brokers? No more so than the USSF, and they are decidedly not as long as Sunil Gulati is a FIFA vice-president and also a high ranking official of CONCACAF. I am happy to see the Secretary General of FIFA is a woman but how much real authority does she have. The days of European (and I include the USA in this) must come to an end. I still maintain that the more esposure any side gets the better it will beoome. Look t the England Women's Team. Not so very long ago they were nowhere due to the FA's neglect. Now they have a reasonable chance at France 2019. What did it for them? Exposure because they are still woefully underfunded.

That you would say your women get paid better than your men is simply unbelievable given the men all play in the EPL and the women are at best considered semi-professional. Professional status for women in England is only coming with the advent of the new pyramid structure which screwed Crystal Palace yet again. The women in the USA, who are three time world champions, is far less than the men and the NWSL doesn't have nearly the status of the WSL in England. This I will say, to totally separate the women's game from the men's game is completely untenable. England has realized that organizationally if not financially.. The USA has not. It was fun while it lasted but it's time to move on.

The wages at their clubs have nothing to do with international football and they'll never get anywhere near parity as the interest levels are not comparable, and never will be. They are completely separate games, you cannot talk about the two in the same context. I've no idea why you went from, who should get what places in a men's world cup, to this?
