At a time when the gap between the top European / South American sides and the rest seems to be getting smaller, the African nations at the World cup did pretty poorly. Pretty silly to think that race has much to do with any of this.

The semis were an all-European affair. I would say European (and to a lesser degree Latin American) dominance continues. Germany haven't had an all-white team for some time, and won't again, though it's relatively few players. The point on all-white Italian/Spanish teams stands, there have only been one or 2 black players there. But I think with the way the world is, I don't think any of them are going to have all-white teams for ever.

Considering there'd never been a World Cup final without Germany, Spain, Italy, Brazil or Argentina, something's changing.

We'd rather have a player from Europe with an American father than a player who grew up here but whose name is far from being Anglo. Yes, I am calling US Soccer passively racist in its player development. Even Bruce Arena says so in his book, "What's Wrong With US?"

I think it's more to do with building a team from the top down, than how diverse the bunch is or isn't.
