We need to get this deal done

If Mstrobez and steeleye sponsor Palace for about £10 million we can keep him and if we get the money back including the wages in the weeks he never plays when we sell him or he’s a regular starter then they get their £10 mil back.

I’m sorry, but I think that’s utter nonsense. I agree, maybe with the idea that he wasn’t ready to slot in at CB. But I don’t think it’s beyond the realms of possibility that he still has a future as a ball playing defender. Those attempting to defame the Ajax academy clearly haven’t done much research on its history, recently and historically.

He has all the attributes to be an excellent holding midfielder either way, what he lacks in “LETS f***IN AV IT” qualities, he certainly makes up for in positional awareness and technical ability.

As for Luka’s passing ability being better, I personally think that’s laughagble, but there we go. A game of opinions, I guess.

As for the last point, a good manager for us in one season doesn’t rate him very highly therefore anyone who voices support for him, and players of his “ilk” is wrong. Alrighty then

Sorry, but better passing ability than Luka? That’s one of his assets, look at the ball played to Zaha for the goal at Brighton, that’s one example of the ability he has in his locker. Jaïro has some neat close passing, but at no point has he ever shown he has the ability to dictate play from in front of the back 4.

I have to agree with the doubters when it comes to Riedewald, unfortunately.

He is of a physical type simply not suited to anything other than centre back (too bulky and heavy to play full back or in midfield, or at least to play them really well), but even in pre season our experienced and respected management team haven't played him there. One or two of the homegrown centre backs have been given a run out, as has Martin kelly (a full back by trade, albeit a tall one), but not Riedewald, which doesn't suggest that the young Dutch player is trusted in the one position he is suited to.

What a weird post. You can’t think we should keep a player unless you can sponsor 10 mil. What a load of absolute nonsense

All the best holding midfielders in world football over the past decade have one strength in common. The intelligence to play the simple game. It’s an underestimated but unique ability. Luka does it very well too, which is one of the main reasons he’s been such a success for us. But his ability to dictate possession from the back is his one flaw, as he’s often sloppy with his short passing.

It’s skill you can’t really teach, one that Riedewald has possessed from a very young age. A skill very few in the squad possess. Cabaye was the only real other one. Good job we’ve brought Meyer in, but I see him as a stronger player in the final third and wasted deep.

I’m not suggesting Riedewald is ready to replace Luka. But he will be one day. And potentially would have a sell on value way beyond 10mil. I think the whole transfer is backwards. But apparently that’s not legitimate unless you have the 10mil to back it up yourself.

I thought the whole point was he was average at 10 until he was moved back to defensive midfield at Schalke?

People complained that Cabaye didn’t score and assist enough despite the fact he played in front of the back four and regularly led the PL in interceptions.

Alot of people are saying that. But it all depends on who you ask. I’ve watched quite a bit of him as I was a fan of his team mate Goretzka too, who was more a box to box type. But I see him being wasted played deep, especially in our system.

I personally would expect him to take up the RLC position. Roy likes his 442 but it’s by no means a rigid system and you saw RLC central in attacks on many occasions last season. With Townsend shifting up and Wilf shifting wide. I think that is the best way to utilise Meyer for us personally.

sense of humour?

How do we fork out for more players if we don’t have the money then? Keep hold of players deemed not good enough by a manager that may well be intending to stay for another 2 years?

You had me going until that bold one. I don’t see Riedewald as ever being that kind of leader and example setter, which you need in that position. Riedewald may be alright in Spain or Italy or France but until the game changes here I don’t see it, and I know you don’t like the English way on the pitch but that is what it is and I’d rather stay here for a decade and hopefully another few than trying to change the English dynamic with bottom half players.

You want to see Meyer compared to the Cabaye version we got. He’s like Cabaye in fast forward plus he beats players and actually gets in the box.
