I actually think that by having a Black/Working class James Bond, you might actually kick some life back into what is becoming a rather tired genre.

Plus you could probably get away with making him a bit of a b****** again, much like he was in the original novels.

Sometimes change is good.

You haven't seen The Kingsman movies then? It's been done already.

I think Jack Whitehall is going to be a great James Bond.

When people suggest the storyline requires a white man, it is not really the case. The stories have been changed to be in the present - where many of our agents are of different skin colours. In the current climes there is nothing wrong with this. Elba is British enough, good looking enough and not that brilliant an actor - he may do an okay job. The main factor in Bond films seems to be the script. I thought Casino Royale excellent, Quantum of Solace rubbish, Skyfall and Spectre pretty good. If the scripts are adapted well should be okay. Nobody complained when Moneypenny was black so what's all the fuss? Attention seeking by the franchise is my guess.

The first one was much more entertaining than I thought it'd be, although it did run out of steam a couple of times.

I like Idris Elba but I disagree having him cast as James Bond isn't black.

Indeed. That's why he's called James Blond.

I agree and would love to see Ray Winstone as the next Bond.

I don’t really have an issue with this to be honest. I was dead against Daniel Craig being Bond. 1 He’s ginger 2 he sounds northern and 3 he is too hench and doesn’t rely on funky Kung fu moves to beat up genetic freaks. Bond has become a poor mans Bourne.
That said I have enjoyed his films so have no problem with bond being black/ white/ ginger/ whatever!

I agree with you last statement and I have never liked Hollywood altering history. Selling movies is more important to them than authenticity, however,I think you are missing the key factor with regard to casting actors.
Until recently, most overseas actors were, well, overseas. It would have been impractical and too costly to bring them in for most productions. I expect you would also have had issues with actors unions. For main characters, it is obvious that a profit making movie would most likely also have to feature 'known' faces.

Hmm, I hear you but what I was trying to put across is that there are plenty of black, chinese, asian actors, etc, in the UK for instance, that any director could audition and find a gem. That's how it happens for white actors, in the old days and now. It's not the case that white actors had to fill those roles.

In regards to main characters, there are some films that a known established actor is needed and would bring in more money for a film but secondary characters could be cast from anywhere. Someone is good in a supporting role or two and then get a break with there own film.

In the old days there where plenty of reasons why certain communities where not portrayed in films, lack of acting talent or actors from those groups was not one of them.

It's changing now in some ways and I think the films are better for it.

However, like yourself, I just don't see how you square Idris in the Bond role, in terms of the story. Having said that, I would still watch it but I just love a good film..

Yep, he'd even be a questionable pick as Bond's weird uncle.
