She insisted that everyone should wait and save up for things.

She stopped her preaching after I pointed out that the Sally Army were one of Camelot's top share holders, and when I asked her if she bought her house in cash.

Of course they weren’t. I didn’t suggest that they were.

Surely, he must have advisers who do research for him and read his speeches? If so, they are not very good.

Strange to find a discussion about your arch bishop at HOL, but honestly from a Norwegian perspective I am really impressed with your bishop - going from a top job in the oil industry to serve in the church. I often listen to his sermons on the web.
This one is excellent:

The Sally army owns 2 flats in my block. They are for retired senior staff e.g. Generals. I find them rather odd and not very "christian", nothing major and I am not saying they are bad people just very odd.

Not against the Arch Bishop speaking out on social matters but he really needs to do his homework to avoid continually ‘shooting himself in the foot’ and thereby loosing credibility.

The COE had decided not to help Wonga customers after all. So I guess they don't practice what they preach.

Excepting the human tragedies that lie behind this it's delicious .

The Church don't have your back.....they look at their own pensions first.

Poverty is just not their game apparently....just their founders.....Jesus 'said', 'Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself'.

But the CoE....couldn't possibly comment.

Why on earth should the church take on the debts owed by people to Wonga as firstly they know nothing about running a debt collection agency and secondly I expect that only a small minority of Wonga customers are practising Christians anyway

Exactly, why the church? Why not the government, they were quick enough to wade in and rescue the banks.

If anything the government are in part responsible and deregulation of the banking industry allowed companies like Wonga to lend large amounts to those who could never afford to repay it atcrazy interest rates.

Some might just view this as an example of the free market but even after market surely has to come with a degree of social responsibility.

Wonga and those like them have ruined and in some cases taken people's lives. It can not be wrong to speak out against irresponsible lending.
