Actually I don't have a problem with the BBC creating multicultural programs. The key word there is creating. The issue I have is when the BBC culturally appropriates (see what I did there) well known factual or historical events. There are no minority people in Robin Hood or King Arthur or Jane Austin so please either don't make it or just leave it as written. As for Balamory or Eastenders feel free to do what you like.

UKIP interim manifesto... "UKIP will legislate to change the BBC TV licence from a tax to a voluntary subscription. The licence fee currently costs the holders £3.7 billion per annum. The licence fee is an outdated, regressive tax, which unjustly criminalises those who don’t wish to watch the BBC, particularly the poor. The BBC World Service could be retained under Government control."

A service which charges most people the same price and makes it difficult to leave is not an honest nor deserving actor. I hardly use the BBC at all and I have contempt for its political and social content.

I struggle to understand the justification for compulsion. If you want news there are many alternatives from Fox to Al Jazeera pick your personal flavour. Other broadcasters offer dedicated sports channels, nature and documentary channels etc. I cannot think of anything that the BBC provides that is unique. Now if the BBC focused on education, arts and minority interests not covered by the mainstream then there would be a case for keeping it but at a reduced rate. I see no justification for bilking the public to show reality TV and commercial radio. There is also the argument that if we are going to use taxpayers money why should the BBC have a monopoly? Why can't the other broadcasters receive a portion of the funds in return for providing public service TV on their channels? Finally if the BBC is so wonderful why not make it a subscription service like the hated Sky? Or are they worried they might not be as popular as they say. Edited by Badger11 (25 Sep 2018 9.04am)
