Fake News ?
[Link] (BBC website 8 Oct 2018 )

This has been going on since the Industrial Revolution and the world population explosion.
Funny how the press are touting politics as the solution.
Politics actually caused this, by the unequal wealth distribution and the clamour from Developing countries for new technology.
What did the developed world do ? We used India, Asia and Africa as dumping grounds for toxic waste and obsolete processes and products. (Union Carbide in Bhopal).

Does anyone think recycling my wine bottles is going to save The Earth, when China (for example) has no Environmental/Workplace Legislation and really doesn't give a 5hlt ? Will 50,000 people driving electric cars in the UK compensate for the 10M people driving 1960's Beetles around Africa and Asia ?

But don't panic. Nothing will happen for a few decades. It will be a slow and tortuous death for Humankind and the planet (assuming nuclear war doesn't get us first)

If you ignore all the overwhelming scientific research and evidence then you are fool. If we had experts in charge of policy making globally, rather than idiots voted in by idiots, then the planet would be in far better hands.

It is a bit difficult to take becoming 'green' seriously when you know that China and India will be excreting plastic, greenhouse gasses and whatnot by the kiloton for years to come. Any action that happens has to be global or it ain't worth spit.
The only real way to approach this situation is to reduce demand, and the only way to do that is to reduce humans.

Oh, you and I will be departing sooner than either of us like to think about.
What needs to happen is a massive sterilisation programme among people who still think that having 10 kids is a good idea.

Quite.
In the West, we aren't making enough babies to replace ourselves. We are not the problem.

That hits the nail on the head.

The population problem is not coming from the west.

Hmmm, I don't like using statistics because they are designed for purpose.
The developed countries populations are increasing, even though the birth rate is dropping. This is due to extended life-span (medicine and food) and migration/immigration.

Conversely, poorer nations have more children to increase the probability of them making adulthood (playing the odds)

A lot of good comments on the thread. Ultimately politics and political boundaries have caused the disparity in wealth which is probably the biggest catalyst for this mess.
