So he can have a farewell gift of £5m.

[Link]

The article also states this will be "an additional £5m windfall" so he's no doubt getting a payoff anyway. On top of the £2.5m per year he's been getting.

How about it's done by years in the league, seeing as those who have spent the most time in it have benefited the most? i.e. we pay for 6/19th of 5% and the ever present teams fork out 19/19th of 5%.

That'd be my first choice. I'd just be interested to see if the big clubs claimed it was unfair with the other proposal.

Man does job well, gets paid millions; millionaires ask other millionaires to give more millions to millionaire for making them millions. The payment is probably just to say well done for lasting that long without getting caught spit-roasting a hooker with Sepp Blatter.

Despite the excesses of modern football I still find this story disturbing.
The Premier league would argue that he has done a good job (£££££s) but he is amply remunerated and has received massive bonuses and will be in receipt of a huge pension.
It smacks of one giant gravy train and no doubt it will be argued that football is a ‘massive industry’ and special payments for outstanding service are not uncommon.
I prefer to remember Scudamore as the guy who tried to take the Premier league overseas, the person who is responsible for why so few games kick off at 3pm on a Saturday and the man who was responsible for introducing £30 away ticket as a bold iniative to ‘give something back to the loyal fan’.
This latter move received great publicity but in reality costs the clubs very little as the percentage of away fans is minuscule.
The worry is that I read the championship clubs want to adopt the successful ‘premier model.’
I still love the game but hate what surrounds it.

Just reading that his replacement is Susanna Dinnage who used to work for the Animal Planet, Channel 5 and MTV.

I think we can guess what the priorities for the successful candidate will be.

Probably filling her bank account on the back of this Scudamore news.

Possibly but I think the PL will want to use her expertise in TV. I am surprised they didn't bring in someone with knowledge of the far east and US markets. God forbid that they bring in someone with a knowledge of football.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a vote for this in return for x type scenario.
