The fishing industry bears little or no relationship to say the coal industry. No one disputes there is high quality coal under the ground but it costs more to get it out than it is worth.

The UK fishing industry is nowhere near as big as it used to be but it is viable but has become wrapped up in rules and quotas and our sustainable fishing policies being subject to European rules.

It is a political issue as due to its concentration in certain areas those areas are constituencies themselves and will return am MP who supports the men on the boats. They are also pretty much all Brexit supporting areas.

Ironically a lot of what we catch is exported. For example we have a wealth of langostine caught off the coast, most of which goes to Spain.

The industry has political clout and always has done. Whole communities rely on it.

Michael Gove being from Aberdeen will know how busy Peterhead and Fraserburgh used to be.

This doesn't appear to change the original theme. The fishing industry is localised and clearly has huge influence in some towns. But why that influence becomes multiplied in the politics of the land is the question.

As I recall the recent spat with the French was because their sustainable policy was more stringent than the British equivalent.

I thought he had a good reputation as a department minister.

Perhaps I can help him. He sits on one and uses the other to get to the front of the trough.

What justification do you have for saying that?

Despised deeply as Education Secretary

Introduced Roman Numerals to Primary schools, very useful in New Addington

If you upset the luddite teachers' unions then you must be doing something right.

So exactly who do you have any faith in?

Presumably only Paul Harris...

What's wrong with teaching Roman numerals? I presume you were taught them? I certainly was.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Mmmmm....Nothing wrong with teaching Roman numerals. So working class kids shouldn't be taught things you regard as 'old fashioned' then......Well I don't go along with that......Shall we teach them how to type more quickly on their mobiles perhaps?

There's a reason social mobility is low and I don't see your comments here as helping with that.

Gove isn't someone I like much.....but he was a better education secretary than most of them.
