Beginning to beleive with a striker that get a decent one. Give him a year max on silly money.
Sink or swim with no long term commitment.
If he proves it by the end of the season or half way next season and we are safe or look safe then reward him with a bit more.
If he goes then so be it.
Its the back and middle that need to have longevity
Strikers need to find the ball when its put in.
There are plenty who will do a year on dopey money.
Knowing they are in the shop window. Or to get an extension on silly dough.

No signing on fee, no salary, you get paid £500,000 per PL goal. That would weed out the rubbish strikers who take a stroll around the park for mega bucks.

Roy has been told that he can invest the money he makes from the sale of Mutch into improving the squad.

I'm presuming this is sarcasm?

Why wasn't this money available or at least why didn't the club truly try and get a striker in? As in, why would a striker sign for us in jan that couldn't have in the summer...

It's fire fighting... it's parish gambling that we don't need said player.

Same old story, yet he is our saviour and regenerating the area.

They perfectly know we need a striker, the point is that they can't get it as decent ones cost, and we can't spend.
Unfortunately until Sakho and Benteke's contracts expire in 2020 and 2021 we're stuck, as no team will buy them.
Also the other players mentioned in this thread, we'd be lucky to sell for 3-4 mill and paying half of the wages.
Unfortunately we gambled and got it wrong. Or better, with Benteke got it right the 1st season then got horribly wrong.
After all think about it, if now Benteke was at 6-7 goals, en route for a total of 15 like 2 seasons ago we'd be easily midtable and no one would have said a word.
Unfortunately it's not such case.

Financial contraints of course limit our ability to purchase PL ready players.

With this in mind, perhaps the thinking was that we have Benteke, who has scored goals for us, and as such could well re-ignite his goalscoring prowess. We brought in Ayew who had scored 11 goals for Swansea last season and we had Sorloth and Wickham who was on the road to recovery.Benteke got injured after only playing 4 games,Wickham has had another setback and this has left us short up front.

IMO we need a striker and winger (need someone to do what Guaita has to Wayne and give us some pace on the counter finally). We either do it on the cheap again and pick up some donkey like Sorloth or we push the boat out a little more and go for someone like Lookman, even on loan. Even Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea would give us an injection of pace and flair out wide. I guess it depends on the board's priorities and if they still think we have an amazing squad...

Amazingly the bookies still have us as only seventh favourite for relegation - I am impressed with their optimism.

I think they look that 0-1 can become 0-0 and then 1-0

We are close to drawing most games we lose ironically.
Not many around us can show that record.
They scrape the odd win or get rogered.

Whatever the amount available is in January, the more pertinent question is do we trust the club to spend it wisely ?

not with Parish and Freeman holding the purse strings, we will end up with loans at best and that is only if we can persuade anyone to come to us and that is about it, we have to be favourites to go down as we will be bottom by Christmas!
