One can only assume that Roy is bashing down SP's door every day telling him that a striker who can actually do what it says on the tin will change us from bottom 5 to top 8.
We are good enough with a proper centre forward - without - as Willo says - we will likely get relegated.
Brighton are no better than us but their Striker has scored nearly as many goals by himself as the whole of CPFC this season - it is really scary!

I agree with the general thrust of your comments.

Our goalscoring is a major concern and if we don't improve in this area there is every chance that we will plummet through the dreaded relegation trapdoor.Supporters have lost faith in our current strikers to deliver the goods necessary to avert the drop.

To be fair, 2 of our potentially best strikers are currently residing in the injury room, that’s nobody’s fault. I assume Benteke had been carrying his injury for sometime, that would explain his poor form, but was asked to play as we had no viable alternative.
People asking for a new goal scorer, isn’t every team!

I understand the injury situation but even if/when Benteke and Wickham return to full fitness, I believe that supporters will have no faith that they will score enough goals to avoid the dreaded drop.

Apropos, calls for a new goal scorer, any proven one costs a great deal of money and we are not in the market to lavish significant funds in order to purchase one.

With respect, Willo, I think whether supporters have faith is by-the-by. The question is whether Roy has faith. On paper, a fit strike force of 1) Benteke 2) Wickham 3) Ayew and 4) Sorloth ought to be good enough. The problem is that because 1 and 2 aren't fit we are having to rely on 3 and 4.

Obviously there are other issues: will Benteke ever regain the form he has been capable of in the past; will Wickham ever recover fully from his serious injury? Roy won't knowthe answer to these questions any more than we can but he is one of the most experienced managers in the business and will make his own judgements.

Where I do agree with you is that there are unlikely to be significant funds available in January and what funds there are will likely mostly come from player sales. The sort of proven goalscorer we are all crying out for will be very expensive and we won't be the only club in the market.

My belief is that the players we would be willing to offload wouldn't generate significant funds. In terms of striker accusations, I am wholly in agreement with your comments - we might need to go down the Loan route.

Just think we had that fantastic strike on our books but due to complete foolishness, ignorance ,arrogance and poor judgment let him go for peanuts and now we have only monkeys!!

I agree that the players we might be willing to offload won't raise huge amounts, though they will free up some wages. I also agree that the loan route might be our best hope. Perhaps people will see what RLC achieved during his spell here and will be attracted by the chance to do the same.

I think we need to get over the Glen situation, we are where we are and harking back to it isn't going to change anything.

if that's true then it's really poor squad management from RH

New goal scorer? I would take any goal scorer! I think Ian Wright is available and I would say he is more old than new.

Benteke cant score goals anymore and Wickham can’t stay fit.

Therefore yes I reckon we need a new one.

Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha.

I think some people are using the news that Benteke had been carrying an injury as an excuse of his poor form.. Has he been carrying it for the last 15 months?

When would this injury have occurred? Would he not have got decent rest during the summer? Once we secured our PL status last season, why wouldn't he have been rested if he had an injury? Why would the coaches have pushed him to play during pre-season if he was carrying an injury?

I would say if he was carrying an injury then it is the one he received versus Halmstad rather than anything he received last season. That means he has not had poor form this season, it is his level based on last season.

That said, at the end of the day he is a striker who has been getting goal scoring chances and missing them rather than not being presented with them. He has missed 'simple' chances with his left, right and head.

I'm not trying to be overly critical of him. I hope he comes back and starts scoring because we can't afford a player of his potential ability and we'd lose too much money if we sold him.

I just don't accept his poor form is due to carrying an injury.
