I seem to remember Fillon being the favourite and Macron struggling for credibility after jumping ship from the left. Fillon had a scandle dropped on his lap in the run up to élections which took him out of the équation. That left Hamon, Le Penn, Melanchon and Macron which is when he started to became more appealing to the electorate. The first round of voting was a demonstration vote to the establishment which is why Le Penn got through and the second round of votes was to make sure she didn't win hence the large margin of Victory.

Yes, you’re right, Fillon was the favourite initially, but the scandal was one of his own making, wasn’t it? He was accused of employing family members in non-jobs at rather attractive salaries. After he dropped out, Macron was neck and neck with Le Pen if I remember correctly. The other candidates who were all to the left in various degrees would have done better I think if Hollande hadn’t been so badly thought of.

Yes, you’re right, Fillon was the favourite initially, but the scandal was one of his own making, wasn’t it? He was accused of employing family members in non-jobs at rather attractive salaries.

After he dropped out, Macron was neck and neck with Le Pen if I remember correctly. The other candidates who were all to the left in various degrees would have done better I think if Hollande hadn’t been so badly thought of.

It seemed a bit odd that the possible future president could be that badly advised. It's not too surprising that they have lost the publics confidence.
