We have been forced into trying something different with Zaha suspended and it’s a chance for Roy to show a different strategy. Let’s give Sorloth a start upfront I know he barely deserves it but just for the sake of a different option. Lumeka or Kaikai out wide would certainly add the unknown factor and could catch Leicester off guard.

Sounding a bit desperate I know but this is what it has come down too

Sako left in the summer, now in West Brom reserves.

The OP suggested dropping McArthur for Sorloth or Ayew, our most consistent midfielder. There is no way either should be in the team over him, I don't care if he isn't a winger, he is just a far better player than both of them.

Playing players in their so called proper positions is easy if they all had same ability level, Roy hasn't that option. Patterson at Cardiff was signed as a full back, now leading the line and scoring.

In fact I meant mamadou sakHo.

Your logic is hard to grasp, you would pick a midfielder over a striker because he is a better midfielder than the striker is a striker? It’s plain to see that we need to play a centre forward. We need to play a proper formation with specialist players operating in their preferred position and style wherever possible, not try to play players out of position like Jimmy Mac as a winger. That is nonsensical.

What is also nonsensical is staying the course and not changing when things aren’t working.

Your beloved McArthur has been a mainstay this year and by and large we have been cr&p this year in most games,

You didn’t answer the question, who would you drop then?

“So called positions” - this isn’t Ajax in the 1970s. Players in this sport by and large have specialist positions where they operate best.

We could do with getting the best out of our playing staff lest we want to get relegated.

Aye,we know how our Roy works keep it as close to what he believes to his best squad and keep playing them. Given his success over the years he has a point.

We're in the desperate situation of needing to start Sorloth, Ayew, or Schlupp...

My guess is that it will be 4-4-2 with Ayew and Townsend up front, midfield unchanged.

4-3-3 with McArthur, Luka, Kouyate central, Townsend and Meyer wide, and Sorloth or Ayew (both s***, take your pick) up top could be an alternative.

I wouldn't drop any of them, as the alternatives don't look promising.
You can bet Roy will replace Zaha with Ayew or Schlupp with Kelly for Tomkins with Dann as cover on the bench.

Maine is right. The alternative is what we’ve been doing most of the season so far and it hasn’t worked.

I think Roy's hands are tied here and they almost have to start. More down to lack of options than choice.

I think start Ayew on the wing and play Sorloth up top.

Just what I was about o post...Ayew is in all intense purposes a winger and not a striker anyway...but we HAVE to give Sorloth a chance to prove himself one way or another. 5 x 90 min games which will take us into the Jan transfer window knowing if we need to strengthen in that area or not.

Wont happen though with the boring , repetitive and stubborn b****** we have as manager.

The first sign of madness is to repeat the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result!

JS for Wilf and Meyer with Sorloth as strikers in a 4-4-2 a bit like the old Salako Wright Bright days

If I agreed with you we'd both be wrong

Of the available options I'd go with Sorloth. This is simply because if he somehow, against all the evidence to date, does bundle in a couple of goals we do at least own the player, and can make a couple of quid back on him in the summer if some mug can be found to take him.

I tell you what this thread does prove - Roy has been picking the only side he can. Even playing fantasy football like we are, none of us can come up with a convincing alternative line-up.

I’d play Sorloth up top and have Townsend up there with him to play of – worked against WBA.
We’d then have someone to build from and there is at least the option of crossing the ball, rather than the players being crowded out on the edge of the box because we have no options inside the box and at the very least he gives the opposition GK and Defenders something to think about when the balls in the air.
With Ayew up top he doesn’t make it difficult for defenders and he offers no goal threat whatsoever.

Play one of them up top .
This way an awful sliced shot may accidentally go in the goal.

Play both. an awful sliced shot may accidentally go towards the goal for the other to slip and clear it off the line.
