Personally, I've always thought that is the way to go.....you have the serious stuff and you have the back and forth. If you don't like the back and forth stuff you just don't engage with it....or you just continue to post without the 'I don't like you' stuff and only deal with the issues until the other poster gets it.

Personally I've always liked both....but continual arguments that get personal can get too much....I'm of course guilty of that myself and sometimes we need to slap ourselves on the back of the wrist if we are boring other posters.

Ordinarily, HOL form for topic titles with a name are the preferred method to announce the death of said person.

What a shame - really got my hopes up. Probably one of the very, very few people on this planet I would cheer the death of. Not in the way the reprobates did in Brixton when Thatcher died, but a celebration nevertheless, tempered in the knowledge that his progeny are doing a fine job of perpetuating his "legacy".

Pure scum.

Sorry, I hadn't appreciated the informal convention. Were you worried when Stirling started the Tommy Robinson thread?

The run on the pound.....the multi million funding for open borders and far left political NGOs and companies....supporting the censorship of conservatives.

Run on the pound - He would argue that the pound was over valued and he was only guilty of being the one to profit from it. And like he says in the video about his experiences during the holocaust, if he hadn't done it somebody else would have. That's the nature of capitalism.

However I understand that to a nationalist anything that damages the nation is in some way a crime. Even if it isn't illegal. But I would argue that capitalism is the problem not the capitalists. If the system didn't exist then they couldn't exploit it. (And no I'm not advocating state socialism as the alternative).

The multi-million fund for open borders is an interesting one. Of course he was a refugee. Britain gave him refuge. So I guess some of his altruism in this regard is heartfelt, although I acknowledge that is no compensation to those disagree with it. Saying he advocates open borders isn't really true though. He's a proponent of helping refugees. But of course he's a very clever bloke and I'm sure he'd be the first to admit that by taking in deserving refugees, you encourage the less deserving to try their luck.

He also spends millions trying to improve the life chances of people in 3rd world countries who are more likely to become refugees. This suggests to me that he's fully aware that stopping the causes of mass migration is the long term solution.

As for your far left NGO remark, well that's just your label. I don't see anything far left about the activities of his NGO in Hungary for example.

His Open Society Foundation began working there 5 years before the fall of the one party state. Amongst other things it provided scholarships so Hungarians could attend foreign universities. One recipient, the populist / nationalist / authoritarian / criminal (pick one) prime minister of Hungary Viktor Orban studied political philosophy at Oxford. The facts don't appear to support your claim that Soros has a far left agenda. He is anti-authoritarianism and pro-democracy and I think his track record speaks for itself.

I'm unaware of him censoring conservatives. Perhaps you would enlighten me?

How can you complain about 'offensive' language when that's what you use yourself? If someone's swearing at you...I get that, we don't need it...unless kept back it would turn the forum into nothing but profanity....but outside of that, 'offensive language'?

You will tend to find that after a while other posters will respond to you in kind....of course you will get the odd heated post....but after a time posters get to know you and react with similar patterns.

We have had plenty of posters with very different views who got on reasonably well....politics is not the be and end all...and it certainly isn't the last word on a person's character.

You don't have to be moderate at all though....I've no problem with that.....However, if you are going to met fire with fire....don't complain about the heat.

And now you call me a flower...

As this is an area about which I care.

Constant gratuitous belittling and name calling is bullying. It is hard to actually bully me because I have nothing to lose so I call it out in what I perceive to be a sense of justice. I have received so many comments from others on HOL that they refuse to post due to the way people respond.

It is rather a classic don't you think that the person that points out bullying gets rounded upon.

Stirling, I know you don't teach in a school any more but you more than most should understand the need to tackle bullying and call it out when you see it.

Or we can let this site continue to be a board for a small minority to have a voice and the rest to avoid posting.

Justice is quaint Maple. Might is right.

One of the first messages I received on joining here was from my son who said he gave up posting ages ago because he couldn't be bothered with all the abuse.

Nope, I completely and utterly disagree with you. If your opinion here held sway I would no longer post here.

Your view, which would amount to the censorship of adults on a political forum is something I'm utterly against.

I have witnessed terms like 'bullying' and 'offence' being massively abused on this forum and I'm sorry to see that it is nearly always from a particular political demographic. I never witnessed these same people complaining on the bbs.

If someone goes too far that is a matter for the mods to deal with privately between them and the poster.

If someone chooses not to post, that is their choice. At least they have the option here unlike the far more restricted and censorious bbs.....I was banned after a few days there.

The Hol has being doing very well thank you.

As for you relating the policing of a political forum of adults to the policing of a classroom of teenagers in computer science.....they are nothing like the same thing.

What a couple of snowflakes you two are.

Tough, suck it up......If you have a genuine complaint I'm sure the mods will listen to you. I've always found them to be excellent. If you want a more censorious forum, post in a more censorious forum.

It's an interesting post and there are answers and information to give you about all of that....but I have to admit...my enthusiasm to talk about George Soros seems strangely muted this afternoon.

Perhaps, later or tomorrow.....I feel lunch coming on.
