Should Palace prioritise the FA CUP?

We have a team capable of beating anyone on the day as proven last week so we could make a very good cup team. We should go all out in the Cup but that doesn’t mean playing the first team in every game. Our squad should be good enough to beat lower division teams.

The FA cup has lost it, it was probably about a few years after we lost 1-0 to Man.U, sadly.

Win the cup and play the youth team in Europa qualifying...please can we just take the tournament seriously? Great post - 100% agree. Surely it’s about winning something. What’s the point if it’s just about hoping for 17th every year.

The FA cup should be given the upmost respect - we should field a strong side capable of beating the opponent. However, with respect to grimsby, we should be able to utilise the squad and win. I would like us to win the FA cup, but ignore the european tour that comes with it as our squad isn't strong enough to compete. Instead, field youth and fringe players. However, that's on the basis we won it this year.. in a few years, i would expect us to be a comfortable mid table club and looking at the cup as a means to get into europe.

I hoped 2016 would exorcise the demons of those massive disappointments, but it wasn’t to be and - like you - I’ve erased 2016 from my memory (until I wander into the John Lewis TV section, where it’s STILL being played as a demo video). I WANT PALACE TO WIN THE CUP. How about winning the cup and then declining the Europa Cup place? Why not? One small point I take issue with you on though...can something be the second worst out of two things? Isn’t that the same as saying it was the better of the two? I'm baffled why anyone would turn their nose up at winning a cup or playing in European competition, what else are we in the league for? To consolidate 12th place every season? What's your best memory as a Palace fan? The answer might differ depending on your age but I'm willing to bet that, for most of you, the answer will involve a day out at Wembley and a playoff win and isn't that what football's all about, those big days out? I would happily see us relegated if it meant winning either of the cups because ultimately playing in the Premier League comes and goes but seeing Luka stand up there and lift a cup would be a memory that we'd never forget. Additionally I don't agree with the Burnley example as a reason for not trying to qualify for the Europa League. In my opinion we have a far stronger squad than them and we did last season as well. They played with unsustainable efficiency last year and set themselves impossibly high standards but are now reverting to the mean. Even if it did affect our form though, the chance to get through a few rounds and have an away day against the likes of Inter of Sevilla would be an incredible experience for us.

I certainly think we should be trying to win these competitions. There must be more to football than just trying to avoid relegation every year. I understand the financial aspects of staying in the prem however when I was a young boy I used to dream of us scoring at Wembley and lifting trophys, not celebrating because we finished 17th.
