4-4-2 ??, did you watch the Chelsea game, only Zaha up front on his own untill the last 20 mins

Yes you are right, it was 4-5-1. Just as clueless, isolating our best player from the midfield. Just as clueless as 4-4-2 with two wingers up front. Personally I think we need something like a 4-3-3. If Solanke does join and is unfortunate enough to be the lone striker he'll be crowded out like Wilf.

Teams play with a lone central striker but if their movement is decent and the movement of the team in general is good they can be effective.Wolves whom we play on Wednesday will probably have Jimenez as their central striker.Brighton play Murray up front although he alternates with Andone.Locadia can play as lone striker but he has been deployed wider recently.Cardiff play with one up front, recently using Callum Paterson who was bought as a right-back.At a different level, Man C only play with one striker, either Aguero or Jesus.

Maybe stating the obvious but if the lone striker is experienced enough and decent first touch then his major roll is holding ball up and bringing others into play .Benteke and wickham should be more than capable of that plus adding a couple of goals. We are looking for something that we have already got .Who is going to guarantee us that on our budget ?

Well someone's had a medical and the window hasn't even opened yet so I'd take "hopefully" at face value and not cynically interpret it at some sort of premature excuse.

He's made a positive statement and one which shows awareness of the problem and possible solution. You've picked on one word of it and tried to use that to undermine everything else he's said depsite there seemingly being concrete action well underway.

The right time to appraise the transfer window is, as always, after it has closed.

Is this the same technology as is used to forensically examine the performance of referees?

Scouting has been transformed in this modern era with technology at the forefront providing data led analysis and information.Clubs deal in global markets with some clubs concentrating on major leagues with software analytics company StatDNA being used to drive moneyball principles.Wyscout,Scout7 etc etc are used to identify a plethora of players, indeed Southampton have identified 20 players for each position before whittling this down to 3 or 4.

The manager will liaise with his recruitment team who will scour the software to match his requirements and carry out further analysis if necessary to identify possible targets. He might of course have certain targets in mind. Then of course the ardous task is to get these 'Over the line' and I am led to believe this whole process can be extremely protracted, frustrating and in the end disappointing if the target is not acquired.Financial constraints of course play their part and unrealistic targets are not pursued.

Are you sure about that? Of course Clearly they will use data to help them and point them in the right direction but they will certainly watch them over a period. I play golf with an Everton scout and he is part of a team who constantly watch players across the age groups and they watch the players before signing them. Are you suggesting Palace do not do that because I would be very surprised if that were the case?

For avoidance of doubt I am not suggesting this at all.

I was just trying to highlight the role that technology now plays in the recruitment process which is a far cry from the old days.Teams still of course have a network of scouts and I believe that Everton have some 200 in the north-west alone covering a range of ages.Everton appointed a new Director of Football, Marcel Brands who took over in June from Steve Walsh who was at Leicester.

Funny how so many fans on this forum were calling for this earlier in the season and asking for benteke to be dropped.....

It will work in some cases but is not a universal guarantee of goals. That we play it all the time no matter against whom tells you all you need to know.

That's nothing to do with formation, more to with the fact that Benteke couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo. Oh, and that penalty incident

Roy’s definitely preparing himself for the worst ala last January!! The fact that wickham keeps getting mentioned and benteke coming back as well means he’s preparing us for the fact we won’t be signing a striker.
Accept it, then at the end of January you won’t be disappointed

Benteke was once very difficult for defenders and there is no reason why he cannot be again, his knee could well have been a problem for him long before the operation was needed which would of caused him concern and affected his play ..does anyone know?

Also with Wickham we all know how good he can become again. I would not be surprised at all if we do not do anything, especially if Wickham scores in the next game.
