Alan & I went to the game & to celebrate our 2-1 victory, we stopped off at an ‘Offy’ to purchase refreshments, which included a bottle of Pomange, for the train journey home. Word got around that the players were coming back by train and as we were looking out of a window, to our delight the players came walking past us. At that point Alan hands the opened bottle of fizz to Alan Whittle, who proceeded to guzzle it! I have just found the programme from the game & have attached a couple of pics including the teamsheet. Although Alan Whittle is not listed, I’m pretty certain he started the match wearing the no 9 shirt in place of David Kemp. Happy days!

They were unfortunately a bit ‘out’ in making us firm favourites for promotion that year

From my 1975/76 CPFC scrapbook (yes I really did maintain one and yes I really have kept it!), the Sunday Express report. According to the note made by the 16-y-o YT, David Kemp DID play and Alan Whittle was the substitute. And I may once more have to bow to Spidey's recollection, because the cutting showing the 4th round draw does look to have come from the Sunday Express too, which would confirm that the draw WAS made on the Saturday evening. Palace certainly did turn on the style, but unfortunately they didn't do so in the four league games surrounding this cup tie, which were all defeats: Millwall (Away), Aldershot (Away), Gillingham (Home), Walsall (Home). This set the scene for the rest of the season; majestic performances in the Cup and mostly dross in the league, culminating in failure to secure promotion.

So did I. wasn't there only 3 sides for spectators, one end behind a goal was just a fence? Recreation ground I believe

I went to the 1-0 loss at Aldershot. It was a 3 sided ground with a high netting fence behind one goal. As I remember, Aldershot also played in red and blue and we really did pack out the away end. I also seem to remember feeling hard done by as they had one or two really good loan players in their side. That was a bit more unusual in those days.

I recall that the turnstile was a converted Park Hut at the open end of the ground, just behind the netting. Yes it was very packed out in the away end (although no segregation back then). The gate was 13,997, their 3rd ever highest at the time & way above 3-4k they were getting that season.
