All of this.
The most sensible post here.

Walking blind-fold into a cashless society ie handing over much of your wealth to a third party who can put a stop to any transaction with the flick of a switch................is just nuts.

Yes, it's already happening to people who are 'dissidents'. People and companies are getting banned from PayPal and Visa etc if.they happen to go against the narrative. Interesting times that we live in. Going cashless exposes absolutely everyone.

Whether you care less about it or not, it makes sense for the club to operate in that way and more and more places will adopt it as it makes business simpler. I would guess the club will bank on some like yourself refusing to buy anything for a few weeks and having a little protest but it will still be more cost effective for them even without those purchases. You may just want to take a card with you just incase the first home game of next season is played in sweltering heat and you need a bottle of water!

I'm not talking about the club specifically, more the bigger picture of all payments being forced to go this way. A cashless society as such.

But like I said, one issue on match day that knocks out their system and they'd soon want to have a cash back up option. Even if all works fine yet it's knocks their match day turnover down by a certain percentage, they may have a rethink.

Optimistic as ever

Why stop there as we've just got rid of several players so possibly the club can use those funds to reduce your season ticket even further

Cashless suits me

I’m 42 but when I have cash it burns a hole in my pocket and I spend it in no time

When I first saw the title of this thread I assumed it was about the January transfer window.

Don't the club sub-contract out the catering? If so, they won't get the benefit of any savings - it will all go to cover the cost of all those wasted dreadful burgers, pies and chips.

Yes, I think you're right, it was worth a thought.

It's legal to refuse a sale for whatever reason you like and you don't have to accept payment in any form; there's no such thing in law as "legal tender" except in the sense that a bank has to recognise it.

Cash is nowadays an expensive and awkward payment to handle because it is immediately negotiable (so attractive to steal), has to be physically taken to a bank or wherever you want to spend it, has to be counted to account for it, and comes only in certain denominations. Now that transaction charges for small purchases by card have dropped sharply and card payment processes have been streamlined by means such as chip and pin and contactless devices those methods are now seen by retailers as cheaper, easier and less risky.

I seldom carry much cash around since many years ago being relieved of my wallet by a scumbag with a knife in Garratt Lane. He got £4.50 for his trouble (and a fairly s*** wallet). Also I now use a distinctive wallet (Eagles one ) so that it can easily be described to police.
