Thanks Rob - a considered reply! I think the sh1t will hit the fan next week and we will be in a very dodgy position. The Queen has a range of rights and duties as a constitutional monarch and apart from dissolving Parliament she can call upon someone else to form a government. That does not have to be the leader of the opposition but someone who can command the confidence of the House or form a government of national unity - which is increasingly to me, to be the way out.

you all speak of high flying , high powered , highly controversial politics, legal precedent etc etc .... and i must remind you she is 92. i do not wish to sound ageist, but give her a break and let her enjoy her autumn years with racehorses and cake. as an absolute minimum, this thread question is about the clever people working around QE2.
