What is it with the use of ‘actual’ these days before a word to emphasise a point? I read some young adult criticise a 30 or 40 something as ‘an actual adult’ in front of a load of young adults.

Why does it actually matter? Just like anything, language evolves. I would hazard a guess it is used to emphasise the sarcastic nature of what is being said. But I am sure you worked that out anyway.

If we are not going to play him and we get a good fee then I say good luck to him, hopefully we can put the money to good use.

One more point

We need at least our money paid back, however I won’t hold my breath, we will probably let him go for a few million.

Not all language evolves for the better. Obviously, obvs, literally, (will there be a lit), basically, totally, innit. It does matter in a lot of jobs because it wouldn’t be taken seriously for a reason. I heard Danny Dyer advertise his BBC royal ancestry programme ending with ‘Watch me do what they did’ or something rather than what he’d usually say. ‘Watch me do what they done’, probably because he had to say that rather than getting the ITV freedom to talk complete jibberish. Gibberish!

Anyway. Sell. May as well. We can’t afford players of his value not even on the bench.

Recoup our transfer fee and get about 50k off the wage bill. Yes please.

I don't think he's a bad player, and he'll probably have a very good career. But we can't afford him right now.

Can we afford to let more players go if we have no budget to bring anyone in?

We're already down to something like 21 first team players and 3 of those are keepers, Pape Souare is out for 2 months and Sullay Kaikai is clearly not rated by Hodgson.

This would worry more (more than it is already). All it takes is for Luka, Kouyate or McArthur to get injured and suddenly we're light in midfield with Schlupp the only backup.

I agree with your general sentiment about superfluous extra words, Rudi, but in respect of MM's post I don't think your comment is justified. I took his 'actual' to be in the sarcastic sense (ie 'real money' as opposed to 'funny money' or 'an illusion of money' or 'no money at all').

Edited to say that I just realised MM made the sarcasm point already therefore I am now reaching for my coat.

Probably right. I apologise to MM and all concerned but I’m not on hearing nonsense these days, and I’m hearing it more and more these days I have to ignore people using it, and that’s my point. I watched that prison documentary on Ch4 last night to see the issues surrounding prison and repeat offenders. It needed subtitles, more solitary cells and removal of privileges which you can expect wasn’t happening. Needs a new thread.
