You forgot ....... and as you've scored 1 league goal in 15 apearences for Valencia, I'll guarantee you play every week...

I was just thinking the same thing and wondering whether to post. How could he not guarantee him playing time? I think all managers say that to players when they really want them. Something like "I'm counting on you so you will get plenty of time". This is basic strategy for convincing a player

if the bloke said 'will you guarantee me a start' every week, then our answer would have to have been 'no'. Not more complicated than that. he could easily be a dud, and we'd have to play him. would be insane and be dreadful for the dressing room.
