Some real Abraham wannbes out there.

When it comes to Hitler, many seem to lose all sense or reason.
On baby murdering, you could always argue that the ends justify the means but the folly of thinking that such an act would create a better outcome is totally deluded.
In any event, the ultimate outcome is that the Sun explodes. Before that, we will all live and die and the detail is kind of by the by.

That we’re talking about it could suggest that it’s either never going to happen and that in itself is proof that time travel isn’t possible or consider if time travel IS possible and the outcome of the Second World War has already been changed by time travel and we are already living in an altered reality. (Which we wouldn’t know about, as it’s been changed). Or some such brain aching stuff,

I think ww2 stoped ww3 which would have been ww2 funny enough and that war would have been a nuclear war. In my opinion as the germans were so close to finishing thier nuclear bombs.

You can't alter time because it has already happened.
A simple statement but one that covers all sci-fi ideas about paradoxes, past event alterations and other assorted mumbo jumbo.

It's great fun in movies but impossible in reality. The best part is that if you could alter the past, no one would know it had happened.

In the Hitler scenario, I think the more significant point is what people are prepared to do in the name of self interest.
In short, they are prepared to kill an innocent baby thus making themselves arguably as ruthless as Hitler himself.

As an aside, Mrs YT and my 2nd daughter looked like Hitler when she was born. We reminisce about it from time to time, much to her delight. We always thought it a bit odd given that ‘they’ say all babies look like Winston Churchill.

I suspect she'll turn out all Reitch in the end.

Watched a docu where a british soldier let a young hitler go during ww1 due to him looking terrified in the trenches when confronted with a bayonet.
Goddamit hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Ridiculous.

He might have averted a global nuclear war in the 60's or a Russia controlled Europe or any number of other possible negative outcomes.

It's fairly obvious that of all the possible outcomes, only some might be perceived as positive to some people in the relatively short term.

Hitler is the linchpin in responsibility for well over 15 maybe 20 million deaths. This puts him up there in amongst the most awful human beings of all time.

However Hitler's service record in WW1 is pretty strong evidence that he was no physical coward. His activities in the 20s and early 30s were similar to how a mafia leader would behave and he was at risk of death many times over.

I think the need to reject something truly awful can sometimes get in the way of acknowledging truths because we don't want to be seen as being positive.

It's the same thing where they call suicide bombers cowards when they plainly aren't......It isn't praise it's just a recognition of a situation for what it is.

The outcome of the twentieth century could have been a lot worse than it was. We are lucky to have survived it without nuclear destruction.

The idea of altering history is beyond daft and not worth discussing. Firstly it is impossible and if it could be done, the mess you might cause by attempting it could be disastrous.

I thought you could alter history just by winning a war and then writing a book.

History is bunk, someone once said.

A lot of so called history is codswallop but that is not the same as actually trying to alter it.

I watched a program recently where they said that much of the celebrated history of the American revolution was made up. That Liberty bell never rang. Tip of the iceberg I suspect.
