Hitler is the linchpin in responsibility for well over 15 maybe 20 million deaths. This puts him up there in amongst the most awful human beings of all time.

However Hitler's service record in WW1 is pretty strong evidence that he was no physical coward. His activities in the 20s and early 30s were similar to how a mafia leader would behave and he was at risk of death many times over.

I think the need to reject something truly awful can sometimes get in the way of acknowledging truths because we don't want to be seen as being positive.

It's the same thing where they call suicide bombers cowards when they plainly aren't......It isn't praise it's just a recognition of a situation for what it is.

It really doesn't matter if Hitler was brave or not or if a soldier could have killed him or not.
What matters is that killing Hitler could make matters worse in the short term and be insignificant in the longer term.

The whole idea is stupid. Decisions made are made without foresight of the future. That is how it must be.

The thread title is 'Baby Hitler'......So of course the whole topic was a silly one to begin with......But I consider it a fun one to look into if not attached to hyper serious events of the past.

How would history have advanced if Hitler had died on a WW1 battlefield......would the nuclear bomb have been used more regularly.....Or perhaps it might have been used in the Korean war instead and then attained the fear of its usage that we have.

I suspect many books have been written on it.

OK. so now you are talking hypothetical alternative futures.

On that, I'd say that it is impossible to predict other than that I'm sure there would have been conventional conflicts up until the point where someone invented the bomb.
The best thing you can say about the existing past is that we built the bomb first. KIlling Hitler might have allowed the Russians or Germans to do it eventually and
flatten London or Washington.

It's definitely a possibility....or maybe Stalin wouldn't have lasted as long because he wouldn't have had the same war legacy.....like the beats of the butterfly wings I guess it's impossible to know the extent of the impacts.....What if Churchill's war time heart attack had been fatal?

Would it have affected today's car insurance?

As another aside, it annoys me when people say that something yet to happen could “change the course of history”. The latest example I can offer is Yvette Cooper re. Brexit..she said that MPs had the opportunity to “change the course of history”. Er no, lover, history has already happened; you can’t change it.

Rudi, please back me up here!

Killing hitler would not have made a difference imho. Germany was already engaged in mass genocide and concentration camps long before hitler was in power.

You’re right, she’s full of Balls.

Unless you’re having an affair with her, referring to her as lover.

Certainly 'The Germans' episode of Fawlty Towers would not have been made and that would have been a tragedy.

The result of the Battle of Hastings 1066 would have been different if VAR had been employed.
