I was calling for Meyer to start, but in fairness to Roy we looked great in the first half. The mistake was sitting back. Max showed on Sunday that he can quickly turn defence into attack and I think should have come on around the hour mark. Hopefully he plays wide left and is given the freedom to come inside, which he did to good effect earlier in the season.

I was okay with him not playing when we needed a physical, defensive away performance. I think Fulham at home - when they'll inevitably try to frustrate us - is the perfect kind of game for Meyer and I will be irritated if he doesn't play.

Prepare to be irritated as we play hundreds of passes sideways with everyone in position. We should’ve been playing 4-2-3-1 which would satisfy Roy’ cautious approach and give us attacking bite but instead stay rigid with everyone in position. Maybe a ball will go loose in their box or a set piece might go in. That’s what I hope for during this era. That and 17th and maybe a late charge up the table when the likes of Leicester have nothing to play for (happens annually) and we can nab an extra 7-9 points.

Can’t knock Roy today as we won with a clean sheet. Played well. But with Zaha and Kouyate out today, I can’t see when Meyer will ever start.

Meyers a mixed bag. Tidy and good with keeping the ball, occasionally links up in tight triangles to bring others into play, good positionally. But hes weak, has no pace, no range of passing and cant shoot and cant tackle. First and foremost in the PL you need athleticism, unless you are exceptional or surrounded by exceptional talent. He doesnt quite do it for us im afraid, kayoute, jimmy mac and Luka easily ahead of him at the moment...and as poor as he i kinda get roy picking schlupp ahead of him for the reasons ive mentioned above. Needs a can of spinach or 2 before he'll be a regular in this team imo. Very nicely put.

It was mentioned in commentary today, that Ranieri doesn't play Sessegnon regularly as he doesn't think he strong enough for the Premier, but he is an undoubted talent.

Did Macca hit one pass to a Palace player today? Can't believe that Roy seem happy with his game today when he doesn't sub him. Meyer will never get his chance under Roy, I'm afraid! Can't blame Macca for not working his socks off that's for sure, but the footballing side of him is just appalling today! Edited by MidnightSunEagle (02 Feb 2019 7.33pm)

I so agree Meyer would start ahead of Sclupp or McArthur for me.

Roy basically said in his post match presser that the players that the fans like are not necessarily the players that he thinks are important for the team. Have a feeling he was talking about Meyer and Schlupp. Schlupp was reliable as usual today. Covers a load of ground and is solid on the ball and looks to drive forward. He also made some interesting comments about Bentekes lack of goals in the last 15 months basically saying he is lucky to have the support of the fans because he isn’t scoring enough, but he believes he still can score.
