When I was growing up and first started supporting Palace the local rival was not Brighton. We didn't play them (from 1963 to 1974), I didn't know any Brighton fans, so I'd left school and was nearly 20 the first time we played them in a league match. Millwall was the one - when they came down being on the Holmesdale was terrifying.

I remember knives being held to throats on the Holmesdale. Really, really nasty.

I must say that in terms of visceral dislike, Watford have overtaken them for me lately.

But the Brighton rivalry is still alive for me - was over the moon when we beat them last season and absolutely disgusted with our players during the loss this season.

I do quite like Hughton though.

Agree with every bit of this statement.

Watford are just like Brighton for me though. They have no other rivalry to join in on (Spurs and Arsenal don't want them) and seem to think that therefore we are on the same level. F***ing muggy little team and fans just like BHA. I really don't like Watford and make myself laugh getting wound up about it.

Quite frankly, I can't stand any other London teams. Arsenal and Tottenham fulfill the stereotype of being up themselves, unjustifiably arrogant North London tw4t5. Chelsea and West Ham are both bunch of postering, thick, all mouth cowards who similar to Millwall become absolute warriors when with a crowd of thousands. QPR? Who the fvck are QPR? Has anyone ever met a QPR fan away from a matchday? Charlton - please, don't even think about them.

I do however do not have any gripes against Fulham, bless 'em!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

As said on other threads, my hatred is only really kept alive by the fact I live in Sussex and work in Hove, so generally encounter more Brighton fans than fans of other clubs. My Dad (also a Palace fan) hates Southampton more as he used to work and lodge there as a younger man and was constantly mocked for supporting Palace. He attended nearly every Southampton game one season to sit with the away fans and support literally whoever they were playing.

This season I feel a little bit less bothered by Brighton. I'd like to see them relegated, sure, but if I could pick between that and Liverpool spunking the league right up the wall, I'd pick the latter. Somehow I feel like I would derive more joy from Liverpool blowing the league title than Brighton going down.

I like your old man! I had an ex whose family all supported Saints. Village types.

Fulham? I hate them.

Ever since Johnny Haynes ignored my request for an autograph in 1960 I have nursed a pathological burning hatred of them.

When they were promoted I asked for counselling to deal with my Liam Neeson type feelings.

Since we trounced them I have been floating on air, thinking of all those millions going down the drain.

Armaggedon would be Fulham staying up,

Nothing really against Arsenal

I think of them as being 'the meek' in the Life of Brian. Bless them.

Lived down here for 16 years now and moved when any sign of there resurgence was unlikely. Most of the old school Brighton supporters I know are decent enough I can have a good chat about football. For those that went to Gillingham and Hereford I've got time for if we think we have had some bad chairmen in the past compare that to Archer and Bellota who properly did them over.

What annoys me are the ones who are Liverpool or Chelsea supporters but go along or have an 'interest' in Brighton and want to re-enact the whole we hate Palace. Best way of telling is the Perry test if you ask them the best Perry and they say Suckling or Digweed they are alright if they tell you they had delightful Pear Cider when they went glamping to a lovely organic farm in Devon they can do one.
Still want to hammer them and see them go down though, but not as much as I would like to see Liverpool mess up the league again.

Wow. That's one huge chip that you have on your shoulder. If European regulars Arsenal and Tottenham are "unjustifiably arrogant" what does that make followers of Palace whose achievements pale into insignificance compared to those two

A lot of my neighbours are Brighton fans. 5 years ago there was slight banter.
We don't even talk about football now. Midweek kick-offs and police kettling has meant recent away allocations (at Brighton and Selhurst) have only just sold-out.
The play-offs were the last throes of rivalry, and most of that happened in the changing rooms.

I worked in an office with Chelski, gooner, Yid and spammers supporters. Probably dislike Yids and Spammers the most

Find them an annoying irrelevance, they are far too obsessed with what is going on with Palace rather than their own club. Since they have been promoted the only times I have seen them play are against Palace I don't even bother to watch their games on TV they are that worthless.

Chris Hughton is a good man though would prefer it if he managed somewhere else

Ah, but we are talking supporters here. How can you be arrogant if you 'support' a team of which you knew little until 'deciding' to support due to their success. If you went through the mill when times were tough, then fine. Most current fans had nothing to do with the success so have no right to be arrogant.
