I didn't want to presume, he seemed on such a roll.

Yes, a roll no doubt bought at Lidl given where he lives. A man after my own heart

I'm still convinced you're just slumming it.......You'll be extolling the virtues of 'Farm Foods' next!

I'm a Sainsbury's man.......Mmmm....suddenly that sounds not so good to me.

Perhaps I should change to Morrisons.

I have a vegan son and a livestock farmer daughter. Life in the Maple household gets complex. They both agree that Lidl and Aldi in general work better with the farmers than most of the other supermarkets.

The lambing we do goes to Waitrose, definitely a good supply chain.

We have a young vegan in the family: an ethical, if tough choice.

I'm fed up with supporting foreign companies..... If the quality is in the same ballpark I go with the British option.

Lidl Lamb is fine, but then you can’t rear a caged lamb, although you can feed them bagged feed rather than let them feed naturally from vegetation (predictive text almost put in vegetarians)

I’m unsure of the life their cattle lead by how chewy it can be. But then you say ‘they work better with farmers’, not rear them, although they choose the farms that rear them in certain ways, or to achieve a certain margin. That’s the problem. The margins.

Aldi and Lidl are very strong in UK supply chains. That is the perverse thing about where our food comes from. Possibly more trustworthy than the other supermarkets except Waitrose.

I might buy New Balance trainers in future. I’ll probably be labelled a gammon or some rubbish.

I never ever buy foreign meat, lamb included.

There's a situation comedy in there somewhere.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

That's fine as long as you're an organic free range gammon
