I agree with Jamie's previous comments that lie detector tests tend to be faulty. I'm not sure if this is win:win for them or lose:lose.

From their point of view, if they pass it they'll claim it clears them and potentially continue to pursue libel cases. If they fail they'll say it's inaccurate.

On the flip side, if they pass it a lot of the public will say it's inaccurate and proves nothing. If they fail the public will consider it proof.

In summary - pointless, but it doesn't seem something a guilty couple would agree to after all this time. Or is it a very clever bluff?

It'll shift a few copies of books, and result in some interviews, articles and appearances. Given that almost all polygraph tests are interpreted results, the defining factor is usually who's paying for the test.

If an independent body are doing it, then likely as not their lawyers will arrange some 'prep' sessions, with a skilled polygraph operator, who will coach them on getting the right result.

If they're not stupid, they've been preparing for some time, knowing that it might come to this - Their legal team and PR team are likely to have thought this through and planned accordingly.

The girl is either dead or living a completely different life somewhere else. Whatever happened to her they had a massive responsibility for it, whether directly or not. She is gone and not coming back.

Burn them as witches and let that be the end of the whole sorry saga.

I also think, I know I have already said this, but if she had been abducted (I have my doubts) then if they had prioritised assisting the police ahead of avoiding being accused...perhaps they'd have had a better chance of finding her.

I doubt it. More time spent 'assisting the police' look at you, is less focus by the police on the search. Realistically, the chance of getting an abducted kid back alive, when a stranger is involved really is slim, unless its by a woman.

Usually they're dead within an hour or two of going missing. Even if its sexual, the offender will kill them straight after raping them, when the 'fantasy' breaks down, and they panic in the reality of what they've done. Its a bit different if the abductor is a sadist, but usually with kids, you're looking at sexual gratification as a motive.

And most abductors are opportunists and inexperienced. Seasoned child sex offenders tend to gravitate towards situations where they have access to children and can control them, rather than snatching them (which is very high risk). The few very 'efficent' abductors tend to talk children into going with them, or stalk targets to determine safe points of abduction. Tourist hotels seem a bit high risk (lots of cameras, people, well lit, limited points on entry and exit).

That said they're also usually not very good at disposing of the body either.

New binge worthy Netflix documentary out on this case. Quite incriminating towards the parents in my view, especially when the cadaver dogs are alerted in the car and the room they stayed.

What kind of parent would answer no comment to an investigator trying to find out what happened to their child?

A conspiracy theory that might have legs.....but all these cases involving children are just too depressing.

After what's been happening recently I'd rather just do something more life enhancing than look into this one again.

I've not seen it yet and I know people point the finger at them so I won't do that. What I do find odd though is that money and police resources are still poured into finding Maddie after all of these years.

I can't warm to these two either. That said, I'd still do Mrs McCann.

I wouldn't however go on holiday with her..
