Enough to make me never watch Coogan again. Why do so many lovies/celebs support Labour figures without any apparent regard to their credentials?

Over the years many major Socialist figures gained my respect if not agreement - Attlee, Bevan, Michael Foot, Barbara Castle, John Smith - even Blair and Brown (just about) but that Trotskyite, Islington, terrorist sympathiser who seems to support any anti British cause is totally beyond contempt.

Must close before I get too vitriolic as it's getting late...

Why does everything have to be turned into politics nowadays? Politics should really not be such a big deal.

The actual Alan Partridge character isn't overly political one way or the other though. People are either funny or they aren't.

There was a short series on TV a few months ago where Alexander Armstrong hosted two male and two female impersonators in a panel show.

Rory Bremner was a fixture and it's a good time at the moment for impersonators with Corbyn and May being easy targets

I view Coogan as a talented intelligent comedian from an era where we still produced them regularly.

For me comedy is extremely important in a free society. It's not as quite as important as freedom of the press but the freedom a comedian would feel to perform 'edgy' material within society is a similar barometer.

Some jokes are distasteful and go over the line....but it's necessary as a greater good. So for me I'm fine with whatever comedy is presented political or non. There should be no criteria other than a comedian's popularity.

Comedy is commentary on life, so giving offence is maybe not the main part but it's still an aspect of that. So when the day comes that the clown can no longer mock the powerful because they can cite some line they overstepped.....giving a justification like, 'freedom of speech isn't freedom from consequences'....then that is one of the few remaining nails in the coffin for that city on the hill.....indeed that's already happened and one of the results is we are producing less comedy worthy of the name.

Another good one last night.

The problem is that the satire is often so close to reality that it's hard to tell the difference.

The feminist bit was like watching the real BBC.

I agree. I've enjoyed the whole series. I especially like it when he has his akward battles with the reporter who disagrees with everything he says.

He strangely started looking like Gary Lineker after eating the shellfish!

Always try to smear the opposition when your side is making a complete hash of things. The Tories are a laughing stock over Brexit and Corbyn could not do worse,an election would give Labour a landslide majority (opinion polls) and the U.K. might get a little respect back Instead of being a global joke.
