Just to be a bit Devil's advocate here - wasn't it always the case you could get arrested on suspicion of anything (sweet FA, or trumped up) basically and then released without charge within a certain timeframe. I believe the wonderful Tony Blair extended this time - notably for terrorism - but also did they not change the habaeus corpus rules for legal representation too? Can you call lawyer immediately now? Not sure on timeframes anymore as I have been away, in the main, for 20 years. Red and Blue Army!
