Thomas Salmon (historian) (b1679) used the quote of his speech, whoremaster etc.

The links and the historian who lived a lot closer in time than either of us would beg to differ about whether he made the speech.

As to who would be the Lord Protector well I would of course

I think you would make a very good Lord Protector J.

I am afraid you couldn't protect us from ourselves though..........

Neither do they to be fair.

They all coin hundreds of thousands in expenses, have second homes in the big smoke and make money out of lobbies, sponsors and other business interests.

They all pocket vast sums, think of the (not to be sniffed at!) salary as the trail of grain that leads to the trough.

The Ayes have it all ... politicians know how to milk every last penny out of the taxpayer and get all the perks going. That's aside from what they can pick up from their other interests. Their troughs are certainly well filled.

You’re right there H. They also manage to secure positions on various boards and other sinecures when they leave the House of Conmen. The gravy train takes some derailing even by those who really try.

I so love it when people repeat urban myth as fact

Look it up on IPSA

Sarah Jones’ costs for example are entirely due to running her constitutional office

Are you suggesting that MPs don't claim for cleaning the moat around their home or for building a floating duck house or even claiming £20,700 for repairs to the bell tower in his stately home

Even worse when they claim for a plug or a tin of cat food. David Lammy claims £100 a year for a Jaffa cakes. Not for his cat I assume.

Have always thought that anyone who wants to be a politician should be automatically barred from the job. Should be a fixed term 5 year post selected randomly. They are supposed to represent us not themselves.

David Lammy eats Jaffa cakes?

Maybe he's expressing his hatred towards persons of orange.

Trump should come out and defend his people.

I think it was Plato who said that leaders shouldn't be paid amongst other things.

The philosopher king concept.

Well, yes. The Donald either with our ex-chairman or the “glamour model” could produce a regular Outspan.
