Being British is now similar to being American. You know, like how Italian Americans call themselves. Even now I expect there are some who’ll call themselves ‘Italian American.’ There are certainly people calling and calling themselves ‘African American’, because you know what, that’s where their ancestry is from.

You’re more likely to get black people here calling themselves Black British or mixed race. I don’t see many black or Asian people calling themselves English because their genes obviously aren’t English and they’re proud and honest of their ancestry. This will also apply to white people who are say half English and half Spanish. They’re unlikely to claim they’re just English. And half Scottish and half Spanish people or any other nation will never call themselves English.

People shouldn’t feel uncomfortable with saying exactly what they are. A lot of people will say where there parents genes are from and that England or Britain is their adopted home. If their genes obviously aren’t English they’ll probably be open about it but possibly have a very strong allegiance and be very comfortable with that as has been the case for ages.

The usual example holds here. If a family move from Britain to China and their descendants marry into other British families how many generations will it take for them to become Chinese and be considered as Chinese by the indigenous population?

They do eat far too much salt, sometimes with things that are still alive, and have a stupid alphabet but they aren't dumb enough to give up their genetic heritage to anyone who can row a boat.
