Who knows what goes on in Benitez’s mind. Maybe he’ll not like the idea of us wanting him when Roy retires, or maybe he’ll value that loyalty for himself.

Probably unlikely that he'd come here but Rudi Garcia at Marseille has a history of transforming clubs' fortunes with attractive and attacking football and would be my first choice. Given we have a strong French-speaking contingent (Sako, Sakho, Zaha, Souare) that might help any transition. Second choice for me would be somewhat of a risk in Tony Popovic. He has built up a reputation in Australia for creating fit, disciplined teams and seems to take an Allardyce approach in terms of using analytics, etc. which could help give us an edge. Downside is he has no managerial experience at a high level (aside from that brief stint as our assistant manager). Third choice would be Wagner. Huddersfield fans still speak highly of him and I think with a better squad he could do well.

1 Mikel Arteta,done his Apprenticeship working with pep,and was intervieweded for Arsenal job,worth a shout with Roy as director off football. 2 Rafa Benitez,looks like he could be leaving Toon and is a very good manager,has lots of connections in the game. 3 Chris Wilder at Sheff utd,tactically very good and doing a cracking job,looks like his taking them up but will be in high demand if they fall at the final hurdle. Swansea coach is another who should be considered.

Are Benitez and Mourinho serious suggestions? I am not mocking, but would like to understand the thought process that people would think managers of that level would come to Palace.

Could see Rafa saying yes, done a brilliant job at Newcastle and IMO is a high quality PL manager. If he is promised funds and a good salary why not?

Is Newcastle to Palace a different level? I suggested Benitez because I think he has proved himself with no funds (and has obviously already done it with funds/big teams). So with our limited budget I think he could be the perfect manager and may even make players like AWB think twice about leaving And for the record I really like Roy and think what he has achieved for us has been excellent. This is the first premier season where I have not been sweating over all the fixtures & permutations from the start of April Ok home form has been a bit s***, but away form has been magnificent. We are Palace and I think mid table is currently our level. We wont get in the top six, so for me 7th to 10th is the target. There have been times this season when we have played the best football I have seen in my 44 Palace years My only complaint about Roy is that he is too loyal to players not in form (e.g. Benteke or Schlupp) but he has limited options in our squad and players respect is critical for a manager.
