Trump is marmite. Its love or hate, you cannot be on the fence with him. That works for him, and got him in during 2016, but I think that concept is going to start to hurt him.

In my line of work I talk to a fair amount of folks from many walks of life and I sense that the midterms were not a flash in the pan, and that moderate, independent, suburban, educated people, are moving away from Trump.

His base however is locked in until the bitter end. If he did gun someone down on 5th and Lex, his numbers wouldn't change with his base. They have come this far with him, they wont leave now. Its all the way, baby.

There is a genuine concern with the GOP here that in a post Trump era, many of his hardline MAGA folks will once again retreat into the shadows and not engage in politics/not bother voting, if its not for Trump.

Cant see the base getting so jizzed up for Mike Pence somehow.

One thing you have to hand to him, is that he is truly unique. Not just in politics, but in the world. He is a bizarre individual.

America is dumb enough, and filled with enough of that certain type of Trump fan, to get him over the hump a second time around though. This is a distinct possibility.

A lot will depend on the Dems and how they go about taking him out.

I expect there will be more negative news cycles than positive for the Donald between here and election time 2020, including the real nuts and bolts of the Mueller report, and what his tax returns will show, to name but 2.

That wont change things with the base, but those "non base" 2016 Trump voters are up for grabs.

There was a large blue wave in the midterms, somewhat to be expected, but it was fairly historic in its volume. If that trend continues through to the 2020 election then Trump will have issues.

Possibly so but according to Gallup Obama had an average approval rating of 47.9 against G.W. Bush’s 49.4 and Bush seemed to be regarded as some sort of Presidential turnip.

There are many, many different types of republicans out there.

You run the gamut from freedom caucus nutjobs to Collins (from the great state of Maine) and Murkowski.

No human being, let alone GOP politician is like Trump, but that doesn’t mean there cannot be good republican presidents. Reagan was considered a fairly solid potus by many on both sides of the aisle, especially in the context of today’s era.

Reagan did amnesty with the 1986 immigration-reform legislation and then relied on congress to secure the border....which of course to anyone who knows anything is a complete cop out....which didn't happen.

He made long lasting bad decisions for the GoP for short term political gain with justifications to his base that turned out to be falsehoods.

I'm not fond of politicians who sell out future generations because they have idealistic notions that everything works out in the end.
