How does it show that coaches have done their job when numerous run of the mill chances are missed by premier League standard players?

It shows the exact opposite. Not enough work is being done on finishing.

Take penalties and corners for example. Luka is so good because he clearly practices a lot.
Corners we are absolutely s***e at because we obviously don't practice them much at all. Conversely, under Pulis and Fat Sam we were mustard. No surprise that those managers worked on them in training.

In your opinion corners are not practiced much. I would be surprised if that were true, knowing the nature of the manager we have. It again comes down to missed chances, certainly early in the season where several corners resulted in guilt-edged chances. The open goal header Sakho missed comes straight to mind and several misses from Tomkins from a few yards out.

Why do you think we wouldn't practice corners?

Not only corners, throw ins are also, we always lose the ball after the first touch.

We also never challenge the opposition’s throw in one two’s and let them play out of the tight space at ease. It’s been like that for as long as I can remember.

How do we practice defending corners if there’s nobody who can take them effectively in training drills or even clear the first man? Does Harry Kane come in after lunch to take them?

I completely agree we need to improve our free kick and corner taking. Could need a change in personnel in the Summer. I am not saying we don't need to do better but I would be very surprised if we lacked practice, we do lack quality.

Corners are overrated because we're crap at them?

That's like saying sex is over rated because you're a virgin.

Corners are the dogs bollox, hence why everyone plays for them and you get such sayings as:
"He did well to get the corner".

Anyone saying different knows nothing about football.

Listen to Bullard and Murphy amongst other players. Hodgson ain't the type to conduct training with a football half the time, let alone practice attacking corners.

A little contradictory.

Allardyce ..Cabaye, Townsend, Puncheon, McArthur possibly a few.

Pulis ..Bolasie, Ward and Puncheon.

Cabaye and Puncheon were always good especially Puncheon with freekicks.
Players are either confident with set pieces or they are not, cannot practice pressure of games.

Cannot practice pressure?
Pressure comes from lack of practice.

"don't worry about getting on the rifle range lads, you can't replicate the pressure of war. We'll just tip up and hope for the best" Said no Rupert ever.

OK so before a ball is kicked next season and someone said you will have 39 points with 5 games to go.....would you take it?

No.

We need to remove ourselves from this mentality.

The aim should be to play to win every game, more especially home games and when away to 10 other teams.

How about this for a more progressive attitude?
"What should we do about the management if we're not in the top ten at Christmas?"

Which is your opinion. I disagree. I would quite happily settle for 39 points next season with 5 games to go so long as we had won a few more home games.
I would be delighted if we could actually win a cup, but whether we finish 8th or 12th doesn't really make a jot of difference

If we have the 9th highest wage bill yet we're 13th in the table, then either we're paying them too much or they're underperforming. Probably both is true.
